CLERMONT, Fla. (March 8, 2016) – The Fighting Scots continued their early season pattern of splitting games as Edinboro split a pair of games on Tuesday. Edinboro took down Le Moyne, 9-7, in the early game before falling victim to a 15-6 defeat at the hands of Ashland.
The Fighting Scots receive a day of rest tomorrow before returning to action on Thursday, March, 10, taking on Minnesota State Mankato and Southwest Minnesota State.
Game One – Edinboro 9, Le Moyne 7The Fighting Scots saw their opponents get on the board first for just the second time in the young season as Le Moyne took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a close call at home plate.
After a quiet first couple innings, Edinboro finally broke through in the third inning.
Haley Struebing hit a solo home run to left field to tie the game at 1-1.
Brooke Callaghan jacked a homer of her own to straight away center in the fourth inning as Edinboro took a 2-1 lead.
Taylor Payne recorded her first save of the season, entering the game with bases loaded and no outsThe Fighting Scots added four more runs in the following inning to take a 6-1 lead.
Kylie Mason led off the inning with a double to left field and was pinch ran for by
Danna Heh. After
Heather Tighe reached first and Heh advanced to third on an error, Heh took home on a passed ball. Struebing got to first after being hit by a pitch and a Callaghan single drove in a run, putting Struebing on third.
Olivia Jankowski pinched hit for
Jessica Hyland, delivering a two-out RBI-triple.
Le Moyne added a run in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 6-2.

Taylor Payne gave the Fighting Scots and 8-2 lead in the top of the sixth, but Le Moyne answered back, scoring three runs in the bottom half inning to cut the lead to 8-5 going into the final inning.
Hyland led off the top of the seventh, reaching first on a bunt and stealing second.
Alexandra Carroll singled to right center, driving in Hyland to build the lead to 9-5 heading to the bottom of the seventh.
Le Moyne cut the lead to 8-5 in the bottom of the seventh, setting up Payne to come in for a chance to record her first save of the season. Payne entered the game with bases loaded and no outs, striking out the first batter she faced. Payne got the next batter to pop up to third to record her second out, before giving up a single to right center to cut the score to 9-7. Payne struck out the next batter, sealing the victory.
Kalet Lenart recorded her first win of the year, pitching five and two-thirds innings, surrendering eight hits and striking out a couple. Toni Secreti received the loss for Le Moyne, dropping to 3-2 on the year.
Game Two – Ashland 15, Edinboro 6The Fighting Scots struck first thanks to a leadoff triple from
Kylie Mason and an RBI from
Heather Tighe, but didn't hold the lead for long as Ashland drove in three runs in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead.
Edinboro regained the lead in the bottom of the second, thanks to a four run effort. With bases loaded,
Heather Tighe singled up the middle to drive a pair runners home to tie the game up at 3-3.
Haley Struebing followed up with a two-RBI hit of her own, hitting a triple to right field to give Edinboro a 5-3 lead.
Ashland took the lead back in the top of the third, this time for good, scoring four runs to take a 7-5 lead. The Eagles added three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and four in the seventh while the Fighting Scots scored just one the remainder of the game.
Taylor Payne received the loss, making her first start of the season.
