Anderson Enjoys Career-Best Night but Late IUP Three Spoils Boro Upset Bid

INDIANA, Pa. – Mikael Anderson scored a career-high 29 points but the Edinboro men's basketball team fell just short of upsetting 12th-ranked Indiana(Pa.) at the Kovalchik Center. The Crimson Hawks rallied late for an 80-77 win over the Fighting Scots on Anthony Glover's 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining. Edinboro fell to 4-11 overall and 2-9 in the PSAC West with the loss, while IUP is now 15-2 and 10-1, respectively.

Less than four minutes into the game, Edinboro found themselves trailing 13-2 as IUP scored the first eight points of the game. Rather than fold in front of a large crowd, the Fighting Scots clawed their way back with an impressive 30-6 run that was capped by a string of 15 straight points. Sheldon Brogdon began the burst with a 3-pointer, and ended it with another trifecta. That made the score 32-19 with 4:42 left in the half, the largest lead of the night.

Edinboro would eventually go into the locker room with a 41-32 lead at the half, thanks to a surprising 26-6 advantage in points in the paint. Despite a slow start, the Fighting Scots shot 58.1 percent from the floor (18-of-31) while holding IUP to 37.1 percent (13-of-35).

IUP would pull to within four points at 43-39 early in the second half, but the upset-minded Fighting Scots eventually built the lead back up to 13 points again at 64-51 with just over ten minutes to play.

Andre Frederick had 12 points.
A conventional 3-point play by Mikael Anderson at the 7:57 mark built the lead back to ten at 69-59, but Edinboro would score just eight more points the rest of the way as IUP began to rally. The Crimson Hawks ran off the next 12 points to reclaim the lead for the first time since midway through the first half at 71-69 with just under five minutes remaining.

Four lead changes would ensue, with Edinboro grabbing its final lead at 75-74 with 1:22 remaining on a pair of Anderson free throws.

Dante Lombardi answered for IUP with his sixth 3-pointer of the game for a 77-75 lead with 1:07 left. Brogdon would tie the game at 77-77 with a layup 17 seconds later. Lombardi would miss a 3-pointer with 33 seconds to play, but IUP pulled down the offensive rebound. Following a timeout, Glover ended Edinboro's upset hopes with a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining. Anderson's 3-pointer with a second to go was off the mark.

Despite the last-second miss, the senior swingman turned in the finest performance of his career. Anderson scored a career-high 29 points, making 11-of-18 field goals, including 3-of-6 3-pointers, along with a 4-for-6 showing from the line. He added six rebounds, four assists and a pair of blocked shots.

Brogdon added 19 points, making 7-of-12 field goals, including 3-of-5 3-pointers. Andre Frederick came of a thin bench to make 6-of-8 shots and finish with 12 points. Mike Beck and Jon Girvin, meanwhile, pulled down a game-high nine rebounds as Edinboro outrebounded the Crimson Hawks, 37-33.

???????Edinboro would end the night shooting 50.8 percent from the floor (31-of-61), while holding IUP to 43.1 percent (31-of-72). IUP attempted 35 3-pointers, making 14.
