Edinboro Wins Eight Events in Loss at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (January 14, 2017) – The Edinboro University women's swimming team battled sharply at Shippensburg Saturday afternoon, posting eight victories on the day. However, it would be the Raiders that pulled out the win by a 133.5-127.5 decision. The Fighting Scots dropped to 2-3, while Shippensburg improved to 4-3.
 
Edinboro hung tight with Shippensburg despite short rest after beating Tiffin in McComb Fieldhouse Friday night, 88-82. In addition, a brief setback in the Fighting Scots' traveling plans Saturday morning caused the meet to be delayed by roughly an hour. Nevertheless, neither did little to halt the Fighting Scots in the early going, as they won the first two events. Morgan Joseph, Holly Stein, Breanna Purnell and Katelyn Kopacko won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:51.63, while Mary Rosati won the 1000 yard freestyle with a PSAC-qualifying time of 11:04.00.
 
Stein tallied two solo victories, finishing tied for first with Shippensburg's Gabrielle Johnson in the 100-yard breaststroke with a PSAC-qualifying time of 1:08.54 and taking the 200 yard breaststroke with a PSAC-qualifying mark of 2:29.02. Kopacko had a solo victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a PSAC-qualifying time of 25.05. She teamed up with Anastasiia Semkiv, Casey Tokarski and Kaitlyn Daiger to win the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:41.91. Purnell would take the 100-yard freestyle with a PSAC-qualifying time of 54.78, while Yana Miletska won the 100-yard butterfly with a PSAC-qualifying mark of 1:00.10.
