Cold Shooting Day Leads to End of 16-Game Winning Streak with Loss at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – While the weather outside Morrow Field House was unseasonably warm, it was cold inside the gym for the Edinboro women's basketball team. The Fighting Scots shot 31.8 percent for the game while seeing their 16-game winning streak come to an end. Slippery Rock defeated Edinboro, 69-58, to hand the Fighting Scots their first loss in PSAC action. Edinboro is now 16-3 and 12-1 in the conference, while SRU is now 9-10 and 6-7, respectively.

Edinboro never recovered after Slippery Rock jumped out to a 22-8 lead after one quarter. While The Rock was 8-of-15 from the floor, Edinboro was just 1-for-10. The Fighting Scots closed the gap to seven points at 24-17 with 6:39 left in the second quarter thanks to a 9-0 run, but SRU would still hold a nine-point lead at the half at 33-24.

The Fighting Scots closed the deficit once again to seven points at 37-30 on a pair of Ciara Rosten free throws midway through the third quarter, but the quarter would end with SRU still holding a nine-point advantage at 50-41.

Michelle Jahn would close the margin to seven at 52-45 with 6:34 to go, but Slippery Rock scored the next five points and the Scots were never able to get the deficit under double figures.

Despite battling foul trouble and eventually fouling out, Rosten led Edinboro with 16 points and six rebounds. Jahn, Michaela Barnes, and Katie Fischer each finished with nine points.

SRU's Lexi Carpenter recorded her fourth straight 30-point effort, finishing with 35 points. She came in as the leading scorer in the PSAC. Carpenter made 13-of-16 field goal attempts, including all three 3-point tries, and was 6-of-7 at the free throw line.
