CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Edinboro University women's basketball came up just shy of upsetting #5 California(Pa.) for a second time this season as they dropped a hotly contested, 75-71, decision at the Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Fighting Scots fell to second place in the PSAC West with a 17-4 overall record and 13-2 conference mark. The Vulcans notched their ninth straight victory since the Fighting Scots upset then second-ranked California back in December. Cal improved to 20-1 overall and took over sole possession in the PSAC West with a 14-1 conference ledger.
Katie Fischer led a trio of Edinboro scorers in double figures, finishing with 23 points. She added six rebounds and five assists. Rosten totaled 18 points, five boards, and a pair of blocks and steals.
Jontay Walton recorded her typical strong performance off the bench, finishing with 13 points.

After being held to a season-low 54 points in the first meeting of the season, the Vulcan's high-powered offense was on display. Cal entered Saturday's contest ranked sixth in Division II in scoring at 82.7 ppg. Glenn led the Vulcans with 20 points, 13 coming from the charity stripe. Seairra Barrett totaled a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Shatara Parsons added 14 points while Precious Martin finished with 10.
Both teams shot well from the field as Edinboro finished 41.0 percent from the field and the Vulcans were 45.3 percent. The Fighting Scots won the battle of the boards, 37-34, and both teams finished with 18 turnovers.
The Vulcans jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead, thanks to eight straight points from the PSAC's second leading scorer, Miki Glenn. An early Edinboro timeout allowed the Fighting Scots to regain composure and cut the deficit to just three points at the end of the opening period at 14-11.
The momentum continued for the Fighting Scots as they outscored the Vulcans, 20-10, over the final ten minutes in the half. Rosten accounted for nine of the 20 Edinboro points as she scored the first two baskets of the quarter for the Fighting Scots. Edinboro took their first lead of the contest at 22-20 courtesy of a Fischer 3-pointer with just over five minutes remaining in the half. The Fighting Scots outscored Cal 16-4 over the final five minutes of the quarter to take a 31-24 halftime lead.
The start of the second half was a much different story as it was the Vulcans offense that exploded for 30 points in the third quarter. Cal outscored Edinboro, 30-17 in the third quarter to regain the lead at 54-48 heading to the final period.
The Cal lead grew to as many as seven points in the fourth quarter at 61-54 with just over seven minutes to play, but the Fighting Scots continued to scrap and chip away at the deficit. Edinboro orchestrated a 7-1 run over the next two minutes, bookmarked by a pair of Fischer jumpers, to cut the lead to 62-61. Cal scored the next four points to build the lead back up to 66-61 with 3:32 remaining.

The Fighting Scots got as close as two points with 48 seconds remaining, but Edinboro was forced to foul and the Vulcans hit shots from the charity stripe to ice the contest and avoid the season sweep.
The Fighting Scots receive a week's rest before returning to action on Saturday, February 4, traveling to Pitt-Johnstown. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
