Katie Fischer Hits 1,000-Point Milestone as Fighting Scots Defeat Pitt-Johnstown 78-53 to Notch 12th Consecutive Victory

EDINBORO, Pa. – Senior guard Katie Fischer recorded her 1,000th career point as the Edinboro University women's basketball team rolled to its 12th straight victory with a 78-53 win over Pitt-Johnstown in McComb Fieldhouse on Friday night. With the win, the Fighting Scots improved to 12-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the PSAC West. The Lady Cats suffered their sixth straight loss and dropped to 6-8 overall and 2-6 in conference play. The win is also the 15th straight at McComb Fieldhouse for the Fighting Scots, the longest streak since the 2011-12 team won 18 in a row.

Fischer, a transfer from local Mercyhurst, has played the past two seasons as a member of the Fighting Scots after playing her first two years with the Lakers. The 5'7'' point guard scored 309 points as a Laker and has totaled 693 points in two seasons as a member of the Fighting Scots for a total of 1,002 career points.

The Fighting Scots got off to a sluggish start to the contest, missing their first eight attempts and turning the ball over five times in the first six minutes of action. The Lady Cats matched the sloppiness with ten turnovers of their own in the opening quarter. Edinboro emerged out of the first quarter with a 13-12 lead, but an 8-2 UPJ run gave the Lady Cats a 21-15 lead just over three minutes into the second.

The Fighting Scots responded with an 8-1 run of their own, highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers from Fischer and Jontay Walton, to retake the lead at 25-22 before taking a 36-31 halftime lead.

The Edinboro momentum carried into the second half as the Fighting Scots opened the third quarter on a 11-7 run to take a double digit lead at 47-37. UPJ would never get closer than ten the rest of the way and trailed by as many as 25 points. The Fighting Scots closed out the contest on a 9-2 run, holding the Lady Cats to just two points over the last 4:21. Included in that stretch was Fischer 1,000th career point as she hit a 3-pointer to achieve the milestone.

Fischer led a trio of Fighting Scots scorers in double figures with 23 points, her fifth 20-point outing of the season. She also dished out six assists and grabbed five rebounds. Fischer has picked up at least five assists in four of the past five contests. Walton added 14 points and four boards off the bench, the third time in the last four outings she's scored in double digits.

Michaela Barnes totaled 11 points and Ciara Rosten added 10. Rosten also grabbed 9 boards, falling one short of her second double-double of the season. Nicole Johnson led the Fighting Scots with 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive end. Johnson also picked up three steals and swatted away a pair of shots.

The Fighting Scots once again received valuable minutes off the bench as their reserves totaled 24 points. Maggie Moore contributed four points, five boards, two steals and a block in 21 minutes of action. Edinboro also dominated the glass, holding a 47-32 rebound advantage, including 23-8 in offensive rebounds. The Fighting Scots cashed those boards in for 16 second chance points. Edinboro has won the rebounding battle by at least 10 rebounds in three of the past four games.

Edinboro finished the contest shooting 40.0 percent (30-of-75) from the field and 7-of-23 from deep. After turning the ball over 12 times in the first half, the Fighting Scots coughed it up just four times in the final 20 minutes.
