EDINBORO, Pa. – Looking dominant in the fourth set, the Edinboro volleyball team looked to beat Seton Hill in five sets. For the first time since the 2014 season, Seton Hill was able to slip by the Edinboro volleyball team Friday night, 3-2, in PSAC action. The Fighting Scots fell 25-16, 25-27, 25-18, 18-25, 7-15.
Seton Hill was able to sneak ahead in the second set and take a 10-7 lead. With no team able to score more than three points in a row, the set would go back and forth from there with the Griffins holding on to a 22-20 lead. A kill by Cierah Jackson, and two Edinboro blocks brought the Fighting Scots the lead at 23-22. It would go point for point after until Seton Hill took a 25-24 lead. That would be the last lead of the set for the Griffins. Three straight kills from senior Challen Litwiler on three assists from Sydney Trathen evened the match at 1-1.
Missy Soboleski's team jumped out to a 10-3 lead early thanks to a seven point run in the fourth set with the Griffins leading the match two sets to one. A kill by Hannah Cantrill would start a five-point run by the Fighting Scots to go up 17-7. A kill by redshirt junior Tessa Sikora would clinch the set and even the match up at 2-2.
The Griffins would take the final set 15-7 after a kill by Katie Wenson.
Three Fighting Scots finished in double-digit kills. Jackson and Litwiler had 19 and 15, respectively, while Sikora tallied 10. It was the 12th time this season that Litwiler recorded a double-double. She added 18 digs to go along with her kills. Trathen recorded a season-high 52 assists on the night. It ties for the third highest assists in a match in Edinboro history. Trathen owns the number two spot as well with 56 assists against Shippensburg during the 2014 season.
Edinboro returns to the court tomorrow, October 7 against California(Pa.). First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
