Edinboro Enters PSAC Tournament as Eighth Seed after Five-Game Setback at Gannon

ERIE, Pa. -- It was a good news, bad news day for the Edinboro volleyball team on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots suffered a five-game loss at Northwest Division-leading Gannon to wrap up the 2017 regular season. Gannon rallied to defeat the Fighting Scots, 17-25, 30-28, 20-25, 25-23, 15-13. Edinboro now has a 21-9 record and 10-8 in the PSAC Northwest, while Gannon is now 26-5 and 15-3, respectively.

Edinboro had defeated the Lady Knights in five games in the first meeting, and the Fighting Scots jumped out to a two games-to-one lead  before Gannon came back to win the final two games. It marked the tenth five-game match for the Fighting Scots this season, and third this week. Edinboro is 5-5 in those matches.

The fifth game was close throughout, with Edinboro grabbing a 5-3 lead on a Challen Litwiler kill. Gannon ran off the next four points and never trailed after that. The Scots made it 14-13 on another kill by Litwiler, but a block assist by Ashley Beyers and Ashley Kerestes concluded the match.

The good news for the Fighting Scots is they now head into the PSAC Tournament on Tuesday, November 14. Edinboro, seeded eighth, will play at top-seeded Indiana(Pa.) at 7 p.m.

Litwiler finished with a season-high 22 kills to lead the Fighting scots at Gannon. The senior added 28 digs. Cierah Jackson continued her outstanding freshman campaign as she totaled 17 kills and a .325 hitting percentage. Tessa Sikora had a .455 hitting percentage while totaling 12 kills.

Sydney Trathen had 50 assists and 14 digs. Jessica Gianniccaro added 18 digs, with Taylor Palowski contributing 11.
