EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – With the 3-0 sweep of Mercy in the second match of the day, Edinboro volleyball head coach Missy Soboleski won her 300th match at the helm of the Fighting Scots. Earlier in the day, Edinboro downed East Stroudsburg, 3-1. Edinboro improved to 19-8 overall on the season and 8-7 in PSAC play with the win over the Warriors. East Stroudsburg fell to 14-12 overall and 5-10 in conference.
Soboleski, entered the season ranked 26th among active Division II coaches in career wins. She now holds a 300-158 record while at Edinboro and a 433-336 career mark.
Against East Stroudsburg, the Fighting Scots jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after taking the first set 25-19. A kill by freshman Cierah Jackson sealed the win with a kill off an assist from senior Sydney Trathen. The second set saw the Warriors even the match with a 25-18 set win.
The third set saw Edinboro jump out to an early lead at 3-0. Two kills by redshirt senior Jill Glover and one by freshman Paige Morris gave the Fighting Scots the early lead. Edinboro would use an East Stroudsburg attack error and two kills by Jackson to once again lead the match, this time at 2-1.
The Fighting Scots clinched the PSAC win with a 25-21 fourth set win. Edinboro used a four-point run to end the match.
Offensively, Edinboro was led by Trathen's PSAC leading second triple-double. She recorded 10 kills, 40 assists and 16 digs in the match. Jackson once again reached the 20-kill mark while hitting .317 against the Warriors. The Fighting Scots had four different players record double-digit digs, led by Trathen's 16 digs to go along with senior Challen Litwiler (14), sophomore Jordan Van Oss (13), and freshman Molly Brier (11).
It was a quick turnaround for Edinboro as they played back-to-back, with their second match of the afternoon against Mercy.
Against the Mavericks, Edinboro went back and forth in the first set but a four-point run late in the set gave Edinboro a 21-17 lead that they did not give up on their way to a 25-21 set win.
In the second set, Edinboro used two runs of six and three runs of three to distance themselves. A Mercy attack error gave the Fighting Scots the 25-14 win and the 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set played out much like the second. With the Mavericks holding a 4-3 lead, Edinboro ran out seven straight points to take the 10-4 lead. A freshman Hannah Brentar service ace and a Maverick service error gave Edinboro the 25-11 set three win and the match, 3-0.
Litwiler's 14 kills led Edinboro while Trathen dished out 30 assists. Van Oss recorded her second double-digit digs performance of the day with 11 digs.
Edinboro will play their final three regular-season match next week. They will first travel to Slippery Rock on Tuesday, November 7. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. Next Friday the Fighting Scots will travel up I-79 for a match at Slippery Rock on November 10, starting at 7:00 p.m. Edinboro will then play its regular season finale at Gannon on Saturday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m.
