Trio of Scots Combine for 63 Points as Edinboro Defeats Cheyney, 74-60

CHEYNEY, Pa. – The trio of Jaymon Mason, Keshawn Liggins, and Anthony Coleman combined for 63 points to lead the Edinboro men's basketball team to a 74-60 win at Cheyney in a PSAC crossover contest on Saturday afternoon. Edinboro has now won two games in a row to improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC. Cheyney fell to 1-8 and 1-4, respectively. The game wrapped up a string of four straight road contests.

Making the victory even more special was the fact it came in front of three former Edinboro standouts, as Tyrone Mason, Kenny Tate, and Joe Cephas were in attendance at Cope Hall.

Mason paced the Fighting Scots with 27 points, making 8-of-11 field goals, including 6-of-9 3-pointers, along with going 5-for-6 at the line. Liggins recorded his six double-double in eight contests with 20 points and 14 rebounds. He came in leading the PSAC and ranking eighth in Division II in rebounding. The 6'5" swingman has now pulled down 10-or-more rebounds in the last seven contests.  Coleman, a junior guard, chipped in 16 points, going 8-for-9 at the line.  Mike Beck pulled down six boards for the Scots.

Cheyney had a pair of players in double digits, as Cliff St. Juste made 8-of-12 field goals to finish with 18 points, and Amir Boney totaled 11 points and eight rebounds.

???????Edinboro shot 42.3 percent from the floor (22-of-52), including 57.1 percent in the first half (16-of-28). The hot start helped Edinboro jump out to a 41-27 halftime lead. Cheyney shot 39.3 percent for the game (24-of-61). The Fighting Scots converted 8-of-25 3-pointers and went 22-of-25 at the line, while the Wolves we4re just 2-for-10 from beyond the arc and 10-of-17 at the charity stripe.

The Fighting Scots took the lead for good at 11-9 on a Coleman layup five minutes into the contest. A 12-2 run, with Mason dropping in three 3-pointers, minutes later boosted the lead to 27-15. The lead would grow to as much as 18 points on two occasions in the first half.

A 16-5 burst to start the second half gave the Fighting Scots their largest advantage of vthe contest at 57-32 with 12:44 to play. The Wolves would close the deficit to seven points courtesy of a 25-7 spurt, and suddenly the Fighting Scots found themselves in a game at 64-57 with 2:50 remaining.

Mason dropped in a pair of free throws for a 66-57 lead, and after St. Juste made on-of-two-at the line, Edinboro closed the game with a 8-3 run, the last six points on free throws.

The Fighting Scots will break for final exams before returning to the hardcourt one last time before the holidays, hosting Charleston(WV) on Monday, December 18.
