Fighting Scots Cruise to 20th Win With 90-46 Victory Over Slippery Rock

EDINBORO, Pa. – For the seventh consecutive season and 13th time overall under head coach Stan Swank, the Edinboro University women's basketball team reached the 20-win milestone with a dominant 90-46 victory over Slippery Rock on Wednesday night. The win was revenge for a Fighting Scots team that saw their 16-game winning streak snapped in the first meeting earlier in the season. With the victory, the Fighting Scots improved to 20-7 overall and 16-5 in the PSAC West. The Rock dropped their eighth straight game, to fall to 9-18 on the year and 6-15 in conference action.

The Fighting Scots have now won 11 of the last 13 meetings with The Rock.

The 44-point victory was the largest margin of victory all season for the Fighting Scots. It was also the second time Edinboro hit 90 points this season. The 46 points were also the fewest points scored by Slippery Rock all season.

The 14 points were the fewest allowed by the Fighting Scots in first half this season.

Slippery Rock actually held the lead in the early going, leading 5-4 just over three minutes into the contest, but a 19-4 run to end the opening period put The Rock down big. Katie Fischer was responsible for 12 point during the stretch, connecting on three 3-pointers and converting an old-fashioned three-point play.

16035The second quarter was more of the same as Edinboro opened the period on a 17-0 run to take a 36-9 lead with 4:16 remaining in the half. The Fighting Scots finished the contest shooting 45.6 percent (31-of-68) from the floor and connecting on 13-of-29 3-pointers. Edinboro overcame a 45-39 rebounding deficit.
