CLERMONT, Fla. – The Edinboro University softball team suffered a pair of losses on Wednesday morning in a doubleheader against Dominican in Clermont, Fla. to drop to 6-3 overall on the year. The Chargers improved to 5-4 with the pair of victories.
The Fighting Scots look to rebound tomorrow when they play another pair of contests beginning with Saint Michael's at 8 a.m. and Charleston at 1 p.m.
Game One – Dominican 3, Edinboro 0
The Fighting Scots were unable to register a hit in the doubleheader's opening contest as Dominican recorded a 3-0 victory to open the day.
The Chargers scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Abby Sotter (0-1) received the loss for Edinboro, allowing five hits and three runs with three strikeouts.
Desiree Joines (1-3) threw the no-hitter to pick up her first win of the season. She struck out eight batters and walked three.
Game Two – Dominican 9, Edinboro 3
The Fighting Scots were able to breakthrough for hits in the day's second contest, recording eight hits, but they couldn't slow down the Chargers hitters.
Dominican struck first, scoring one run in the first and three in the second to take an early 4-0 lead, but the Fighting Scots fought right back. Edinboro scored three runs in the bottom of the third.
Danna Heh got the rally going with a two-out single, followed up by a
Theresa Fleckenstein two-out single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, before a
Brooke Callaghan RBI scored Heh from third.
Olivia Jankowski doubled to left center to bring two runners around and cut the lead to just one-run.
Dominican responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to build the lead back up to 6-3.
The Fighting Scots were unable to get any more runs across as the Chargers added three more runs in the top of the seventh to win 9-3.
Jankowski finished 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a double. Callaghan went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Fleckenstein was 2-for-3.
Sam Weaver (0-1) took the loss for Edinboro, pitching three innings and giving up six hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Amanda Metz pitched four innings in relief after battling an illness, giving up five hits and striking out a pair.
Emily Larsen (2-0) picked up the win, throwing four innings with 10 strikeouts and three hits.
