EDINBORO, Pa. (April 8, 2017) – The Edinboro University women's lacrosse team appeared to have victory in sight against Kutztown on Saturday afternoon, holding a 6-4 lead with just over 10 minutes to play. The Golden Bears, who did not hold a lead the entire match, came alive in the final minutes to score four of the last five goals, including two in the last two minutes, as Edinboro suffered a heartbreaking 8-7 loss at Sox Harrison Stadium. The defeat dropped the Fighting Scots to 1-10 and 0-7 in the PSAC, while Kutztown jumped to 6-6 and 2-5, respectively.
With the exception of a 1-1 tie with 15:16 to play in the first half, Edinboro led Kutztown for most of the contest. The Fighting Scots took a 4-2 advantage into halftime, and went on to hold a pair of two-goal leads in the second half, going ahead, 6-4, with 10:46 to play. The Golden Bears used a tandem of free-position goals to tie the match at 6-6 with 4:05 remaining. Edinboro's
Emily Peters used her match-high fourth goal of the day off a free position to put the Boro back up at 7-6 with 2:35 to go, only to see Kutztown's Emily Leeb tie things up with 1:38 to play, and Makayla Bowman supply the game-winner just 32 seconds later.
Peters scored each of Edinboro's first three goals in the first half, and recorded an assist to finish with five points on the day. The senior midfielder moved into third all-time at Edinboro with 140 career points on 117 goals and 23 assists. She needs only eight more goals to surpass Shannon Rohrich for number one all-time in career goals.

Goalkeeper
Paige Skinner, after finishing with 13 saves against East Stroudsburg on Friday, had 12 saves against the Golden Bears, including five on free position chances, as she fell to 1-10 on the season. Abby Cox finished with five saves as she improved to 6-6.
Kutztown outshot Edinboro, 25-15, and 20-12 in shots on goal. The Fighting Scots fared 14-for-20 on clear attempts, compared to 15-for-18 for the Golden Bears, and caused eight turnovers to KU's 11. All in all, Edinboro committed 22 turnovers, while Kutztown turned the ball over 15 times. The Boro finished 1-for-2 on free position chances, while the Golden Bears fared 3-for-8.
Sarah Gabriele led Kutztown with three goals, as Lauren Huggins had a match-high three assists. Bowman, Madison Carlucci, Leeb , Lauren Schmidt and Emily Smith all tallied one goal on the day.
The contest was the last of a two-match homestand for
Caitlin Formato's team, after falling to East Stroudsburg, 15-6, on Friday. The Fighting Scots now embark on a three-match road trip, which include PSAC-opponent Millersville on April 15 at 1:00 p.m., a non-conference meeting with Roberts Wesleyan on April 18 at 4:00 p.m. and a PSAC match against Indiana (Pa.) on April 20 at 4:00 p.m.
