Fast Start, Baskey Lead to 3-0 Win at Cal

CALIFORNIA, Pa. The Edinboro women's soccer team parlayed a strong start to a 3-0 win at California(Pa.) on Wednesday. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak as the Fighting Scots improved to 2-2-1 overall and in PSAC action. The Vulcans fell to 1-3-1 overalll and 1-2-1 in league play.
 
Edinboro scored all three of its goals in the first half, with the first goal coming just over two minutes apart in the first nine minutes of bthe contest.
 
Edinboro broke through early for a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute when Sidney Dobbins scored her first goal of the season, firing a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal past goalkeeper Michaela Colon. Danielle Chatten assisted on the goal.
 
That goal came at 6:28, and just over two minutes later the Fighting Scots boosted the lead to 2-0 on a goal by Rebecca Manns. She headed in a pass from Ashley Mutkus for her first goal of the season at the 8:50 mark.
 
Mutkus made it 3-0 when her shot from the left side curled into the back of the net at 31:38. It was her fourth goal of the season and boosted her career total to 27 goals. That moves her into ninth place in career goals.
 
Edinboro held an 11-8 advantage in shots, including 9-4 over the first 45 minutes. Sarah Baskey finished with four saves as the senior goalkeeper posted her first shutout of the season and 13th of her career. She ranks fourth in career shutouts. Colon finished with two saves for Cal.
 
The Fighting Scots return to action on Saturday, September 16, hosting Millersville at 1 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
