  • Records:  Edinboro (2-2, 0-1 PSAC West), Indiana(Pa.) (4-0, 1-0 PSAC West)
  • Location:  Indiana, Pa. – George P. Miller Stadium
  • The Short Story:  Edinboro opened PSAC West action against the preseason favorite, suffering a 38-7 loss at Indiana(Pa.). It was a story of too much Lenny Williams, turnovers, and an inability to finish drives deep inside IUP territory for the Fighting Scots. IUP, ranked sixth in the latest AFCA Division II Top 25 and fourth in the D2Football.com Top 25, received four touchdown passes from Williams, three to JoJo Gause. Edinboro drove into IUP territory on five occasions, including four times inside the ten, but could come up with just one touchdown. IUP did not commit a turnover, while Edinboro was guilty of five interceptions.

BREAKING DOWN THE GAME
  • Edinboro caught an early break but could not take advantage. A short IUP punt after the snap was dropped by the IUP punter gave Edinboro the ball at their own 49. On the Fighting Scots' first play from scrimmage, Jake Sisson was intercepted by Max Redfield, with the Notre Dame transfer returning the ball to the Edinboro 35, although a pair of penalties moved the ball back to the IUP 40. The Crimson Hawks proceeded to drive 60 yards on seven plays. Lenny Williams capped the drive with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Swahneek Brown for a 7-0 lead with 10:36 left in the opening quarter.
  • IUP would take a 14-0 lead thanks to an 11-play, 70-yard drive later in the first quarter. Williams sprinted for ten yards on a 4th-and-1 play at the EU33, and three plays later he connected with JoJo Gause on a 25-yard scoring pass, his second TD pass of the day. The extra point by Dillon Sarka was good with 3:17 left in the first quarter.
  • Edinboro put together an impressive 12 play drive on the ensuing possession, reaching the IUP 7. The drive ended with Mike Cushma's 29-yard field goal being blocked by Jemal Averette. IUP would score just over three minutes later to make it 21-0. Williams made the big plays, including a 17-yard scramble on a 3rd-and-16 play, and on the next play, a 44-yard completion to Dom McNeil. Williams would hand off to Samir Bullock three plays later, with Bullock going right up the middle for a three-yard touchdown run at the 10:09 mark of the second.
  • Edinboro would have its second drive deep into IUP territory, only to come up empty again. Starting at their won 29, the Fighting Scots put together a 12-play, 69-yard march, but it stalled at the IUP2. Unfortunately, on 2nd-and-goal from the six, a touchdown pass was dropped. IUP would go into the half ahead 21-0.
  • Sisson's third interception of the day led to IUP's fourth touchdown of the day. Three plays into the second half, the senior quarterback was picked off by Damon Lloyd at the EU 34 and returned to the EU 17. Williams would throw his third touchdown pass of the day and second to Gause, this one covering 12 yards. IUP led 28-0 with 13:36 left in the third quarter.
  • IUP boosted its lead to 31-0 with 9:15 left in the third on a 34-yard field goal by Sarka, set up by William's 55-yard strike to Gause.
  • The Edinboro offense finally completed a drive into IUP territory on the following kickoff. Sisson directed a nine-play, 60-yard drive, helped by a pair of IUP pass interference penalties. Walter Fletcher came alive, running for a pair of first downs. On third down from the IUP 10, Sisson and Clark combined on a short pass, with Clark weaving his way through defenders to complete a 10-yard TD pass. That made the score 31-7 with 5:10 left in the period.
  • IUP struck for their fifth touchdown moments later. Allen Wright's 75-yard kickoff return had IUP knocking at the door on the EU 18. Two plays later, Williams and Gause made it three touchdown passes between the combo, another 12-yarder. Williams' fourth TD pass of the afternoon made it 38-7 with 4:27 to play in the third quarter.

GAME NOTES
  • IUP came into the game ranked sixth in the latest AFCA Division II Top 25, and was fourth in the D2Football.com national rankings.
  • Edinboro has now lost the last four meetings with IUP. The last win was a 36-30 upset of an IUP team ranked 21st in 2013. This is also the second straight year that Edinboro opened with a loss to the Crimson Hawks to start PSAC West action. They have not lost six straight PSAC West openers.
  • This was the second of back-to-back meetings for Edinboro against the preseason favorites in the PSAC's Eastern and Western Divisions. Indiana(Pa.) was picked to finish first in the PSAC West, while last week's opponent, West Chester, is the preseason favorite in the Eastern Division.
  • Edinboro finished with a season-low 287 yards in total offense, compared to IUP's 474. Facing one of the top rushing defenses in Division II, Edinboro gained just 66 yards on the ground on 22 carries against an IUP defense that came in ranked second in the PSAC and 15th in Division II in rushing defense (89.0 ypg.), while passing for 221 yards. IUP totaled 200 yards rushing and threw for 274 yards.  The Crimson Hawks entered the game ranked first in the PSAC and tenth nationally in rushing offense (262.3 ypg.), along with first and 12th, respectively, in total offense (489.7 ypg.).
  • IUP's Lenny Williams finished with 18 completions in 27 attempts for 274 yards with 4 TDs. The former Temple transfer added 43 yards rushing on nine carries. Samir Bullock led the Crimson Hawks with 70 yards rushing on 11 carries. JoJo Gause caught six passes for 84 yards and 3 TDs, with Dom McNeil adding four receptions for 121 yards. Former Fighting Scots Kolbe Hughes, Edinboro's second-leading receiver in 2014, caught two passes for 27 yards.
  • Edinboro entered the game scoring on 8 of 13 red zone opportunities, with seven of those scores touchdowns. The Fighting Sots were just 1-of-4 at IUP.
  • James Clark hauled in eight passes for 88 yards and a touchdown. The junior wide receiver has now caught a touchdown in three straight games.
  • Turnovers once again plagued the Fighting Scots. In the week one opening win over Lake Erie, Edinboro committed four turnovers. Six more turnovers followed in a win over Lock Haven, followed by four against West Chester and five at IUP. In 2016, Edinboro committed just 25 turnovers all year.
  • For the fourth straight week, a member of the secondary led Edinboro in tackles. Junior CB Zuril Hendrick had eight tackles to led Edinboro for the second straight week.
  • Edinboro has been outscored 41-3 in the first quarter this year, including 14-0 at IUP. Oddly enough, Edinboro held a 3-0 lead after two games, but West Chester led 27-0 after one period a week ago.
  • Redshirt freshman Mike Cushma 64-yard punt is a career long.
  • Blake Reddick, a redshirt junior, caught a career-best five passes for 38 yards.
  • The Edinboro offensive line did not allow a sack despite attempting 47 passes. The unit has allowed just three sacks over the first four games. The Fighting Scots have attempted 195 passes during that period.
THE RECORD BOOK
  • James Clark has moved up to a tie for 14th in career receptions with 107, becoming the 15th Fighting Scot with 100-or-more receptions. The junior wide receiver remains 16th in career receiving yards with 1,498. With eight receptions on Saturday, Clark has now caught 30 passes over the last three weeks.
  • Jake Sisson set a career record he would rather not have. The senior signalcaller tied the school record with five interceptions, and in the process became the career record holder in interceptions with 50. He ranks third in career touchdown passes with 67. He has thrown for 6,915 career yards, ranking fifth. He needs 99 yards to move past Justin Bouch into fourth place. He climbed over Bouch today in career total offense yards with 7,298.
  • Walter Fletcher entered Saturday's game with 930 career rushing yards, needing 70 yards to become the 30th Fighting Scot with 1,000 career yards rushing. The redshirt sophomore led Edinboro with 50 yards on 14 carries to move to within 20 yards of 1,000 for his career.
  • Though just a sophomore, Ta'Nauz Gregory has moved into sixth place in career kickoff return yards with 1,058. The wide receiver had a pair of returns for 60 yards at IUP.
