Mutkus Moves Into Tie for Ninth in Career Goals but Fighting Scots Fall at Gannon, 3-1, in Battle of Regionally-Ranked Teams

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) ERIE, Pa. – Ashley Mutkus moved into a tie for ninth place in career scoring, but the young Edinboro women's soccer team tasted defeat for the first time in 2017. In a battle of regionally-ranked teams, Gannon, ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region, handed fourth-ranked Edinboro a 3-1 defeat. Edinboro is now 1-1-1 overall and in the PSAC, while Gannon improved to 2-0-0 in both.

Edinboro jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 12:27 as Mutkus scored from 25 yards out, deflecting a pass from Rebecca Manns into the back of the net. The senior's third goal of the season marked the first goal of the year for Edinboro in the first half, and also gave the Fighting Scots their first lead in the first half and just second lead of the year.

???????Mutkus moved into a tie for ninth with Jansen Hartmann in career goals with 26.

Unfortunately, Gannon answered with a goal just over three minutes later at 15:37, with Taylor Lewis scoring from 15 yards out to knot the score at 1-1. Gannon took a 2-1 lead late in the first half as Mini McCartney scored in the 41st minute.

???????Kaylan Bevacqua gave the Lady Knights a 3-1 lead after a series of shots at Boro goalkeeper Sarah Baskey, the score coming in the 67th minute. Bevacqua's blast from the right side went over the outstretched arms of Baskey.

Gannon held a 14-12 lead in shots. Baskey finished with six saves.

Edinboro is back in action on Saturday, September 9, hosting Lock Haven at 5 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
