Strong 2nd Quarter Propels Edinboro to 87-53 Win at Gannon

ERIE, Pa. – Edinboro outscored Gannon, 32-9, in the second quarter, and never trailed in an 87-53 win over Gannon on Wednesday at the Hammermill Center. With the win, Edinboro improves to 14-1 overall and 9-1 in the PSAC West, while the Lady Knights fall to 7-8 on the season and 4-5 in conference play.
 
Entering Wednesday's contest, Edinboro ranked 14th in the WBCA Division II Top 25, and were 22nd in the D2SIDA Poll. The Fighting Scots have also won four straight contests.
 
Following a 22-13 lead after the opening stanza, Edinboro jumped out to a 37-15 lead, going on a 12-0 run over the first 3:16 of the second quarter. Michaela Barnes and Michelle Jahn each scored five points apiece during the streak. Gannon's Maggie Mitchell would end the Fighting Scots run with back-to-back free throws at 5:09, but the Edinboro embarked on a 15-5 run to close the quarter with a 54-22 halftime lead. During the run, the Fighting Scots made 5-of-9 3-pointers.
 
The Fighting Scots closed the opening half shooting 60.0 percent (21-of-35) from the field and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) on 3-pointers. Edinboro held a 13-4 advantage in assists, 25-13 lead in rebounds, and outscored Gannon 12-2 in points off turnovers.
 
In the second half, Edinboro lead by as much as 42 points at the 7:34 mark of the fourth quarter.
 
Edinboro ended the game making 49.3 percent (33-of-67) of their shots, including 52.4 percent (11-of-21) on 3-pointers and 77 percent (10-of-13) on free throws. The Lady Knights shot 30.8 percent (20-of-65) from the field,while going 6-for-25 on 3-pointers and 7-for-10 at the charity stripe.
 
The Fighting Scots went on to win the battle of the boards, 46-35, and lead 14-2 in points off turnovers, and 20-11 in total assists.
 
Ciara Rosten had a career night for the Fighting Scots, setting career-highs with 22 rebounds and six assists. The 6'2" senior forward also scored 14 points for her sixth double-double of the season, and had six blocks, extending her streak of three or more blocks in a game to eight straight.

The rest of Edinboro's starting five scored in double figures. Michaela Barnes tied her career-high of 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting, with three 3-pointers, and went a perfect 4-for-4 on free throws. Jontay Walton scored 16 points, on 7-of-11 field goals, including two 3-pointers. Michelle Jahn contributed 13 points, and Whitney Allen had 10 points, six boards and dished out six dimes. Bridgette Shaffer came off the bench for a season-high eight points.
 
Three Lady Knights scored in double figures, with Sydney Mitchell coming off the bench for team-best 12 points and eight rebounds. Chelsea Rourke scored 11 points and Maggie Mitchell contributed 10 points.
 
Edinboro is 3-0 over the last two seasons against Gannon, including a 7-3 record over their last ten matchups and are 36-22 all-time against the Lady Knights.

Edinboro returns to McComb Fieldhouse for their next two contests, starting Saturday against No. 3 Indiana(Pa.). Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
