EDINBORO, Pa. – The No. 17 Edinboro women's basketball team posted a 77-51 win over Clarion on Wednesday night at McComb Fieldhouse. With the win, the Fighting Scots improve to 14-2 overall and 10-2 in the PSAC West, while the Golden Eagles fall to 7-11 and 2-10 in conference play.
Edinboro currently ranks 17th in the WBCA Division II Top 25 Poll, and are receiving votes in the D2SIDA Top 25 Media Poll.
The Fighting Scots went on a 13-0 run between the second and third quarters. Edinboro ended the second stanza on a 7-0 run, for a 36-31 halftime lead. The run continued into the third period, as
Ciara Rosten scored three consecutive layups to give Edinboro a 42-31 lead at the 7:39 mark.
The Scots ended the third quarter outscoring Clarion, 22-15, and again in the fourth, 19-5. They also held the Golden Eagles scoreless over the final 6:12 of the contest. Edinboro led by as much as 26 points with 71 seconds remaining in the game.
Edinboro shot 44.8 percent (30-of-67) from the field and made 6-of-17 3-pointers. Clarion was held to 31.7 percent (20-of-63) shooting, and went 6-for-25 from beyond the arc. In the fourth quarter alone, the Golden Eagles made only 1-of-14 shots and were 0-for-7 on 3-pointers. The Fighting Scots made 11-of-20 free throws and Clarion connected on 5-of-11 attempts.
Four Fighting Scots scored in double figures, with
Michelle Jahn leading all players with 19 points, and connected on three 3-pointers. Rosten picked up her seventh double-double of the year with 15 points and 15 rebounds, to go with three blocks and three assists.
Michaela Barnes also scored 15 points, with 13 of her points coming in the first half. The 5'6" guard shot 6-of-12 from the field. She also had one block, one steal and one turnover.
Jontay Walton added 11 points, and led all players with seven assists and three steals.
Bridgette Shaffer came off the bench for a career-high 12 rebounds, and added seven points.
Erie native Amesha Harden-Pullium led Clarion with 19 points. Jordan Bekelja posted a near double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Edinboro starts a three-game road trip on Saturday, when they travel to Slippery Rock, who enters the contest on a three-game winning streak. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
