Fighting Scots Split Pair of Games to Open Wisconsin Whitewater Tournament

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team opened the Wisconsin Whitewater Tournament on Friday splitting their first two contests. The Fighting Scots opened the tournament with a 53-41 victory over Southwest Minnesota State, before falling, 70-52, to the Warhawks on their home court.

Edinboro concludes tournament action on Saturday, with contests against Alabama at 9:00 a.m. and Nebraska-Omaha at 1:00 p.m.

EDINBORO 53, SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE 41
Edinboro ended the contest making 47.1 percent (24-of-51) of their field goals, including 60.9 percent (14-of-23) in the second half. On the defensive end, they held the Mustangs to a 44.4 percent clip (20-of-45) overall. Southwest Minnesota State couldn't find the net from beyond the arc or at the line. They went 0-of-4 on 3-pointers and made 1-of-4 free throws. Edinboro also ended the game with a 35-23 rebounding advantage, including 9-1 on offensive boards.
Three Fighting Scots scored in double figures. Chayse Wolf scored a game-high 18 points in the win. He shot 8-of-12 from the floor, including 1-of-2 3-pointers and 1-of-3 free throws. The senior also collected eight rebounds and dished out five assists. Senior Kevin Atherley recorded his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and collecting a team-high 11 rebounds. Freshman Jacob Spillers provided a spark off the bench. In 30 minutes of action, he scored 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, brought down five boards, and collected three dimes.

WISCONSIN WHITEWATER 70, EDINBORO 52
The Fighting Scots fell to the Warhawks to end day one of the Wisconsin Whitewater Tournament. It marks the team's first loss of the season. Chayse Wolf opened the game with a jumper to give Edinboro an early 2-0 lead, but Wisconsin Whitewater would hold the advantage the rest of the game. The Fighting Scots, who trailed by as much as 12 points in the first half, used an 11-5 run between the first and second half to cut the deficit to five. However, Wisconsin Whitewater used an 8-0 to lead by double digits the rest of the way. Wolf led Edinboro with his first double-double of the season. The senior posted team highs with 13 points and 10 assists, to go with seven rebounds. Cor'Rales Dupree grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Edinboro finished the contest making 42.6 percent (23-of-54) of their shots, 2-of-7 3-pointers and converted 4-of-7 free throws. Wisconsin Whitewater went 30-of-55 (53.3 percent) from the floor, drilled three 3-pointers, and went 7-of-16 at the line. Both teams ended with 18 assists and three steals.
