Edinboro Honors Three Seniors Before Match With Gannon

  • Location: Edinboro, Pa.
  • The Short Story: The Edinboro volleyball team honored seniors Hannah Cantrill, Megan Screptock and Morgyn Sharp as part of Senior Night. The Fighting Scots fell 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-18) to local rival Gannon. Cierah Jackson led the way for Edinboro and finished the match with 13 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon jumped out to an early lead in the first set, 10-1. The Fighting Scots fought back with a five point run including kills by Morgyn Sharp and Hannah Cantrill to close at 12-7.
  • With the Lady Knights holding a 15-9 lead, Edinboro went on a 6-1 thanks in part of a pair of service aces by Jessica Giannoccaro. The Fighting Scots would it the score up a few points later at 17-17.
  • Edinboro took its first lead of the first set at 19-18 before both teams went back and forth until the Fighting Scots had a set point at 24-23. Gannon responded by winning the final three points and taking a 1-0 match lead.
  • The second set was much like the later part of the first. Neither team led by more than three (Edinboro led 5-2, early) until late in the set with the Lady Knights taking a 20-16 lead.
  • Edinboro went on a 6-2 run to pull within one at 22-21, forcing a Gannon timeout.
  • The Lady Knights closed out the second set with a kill, 25-22.
  • Much like the previous two sets, Edinboro and Gannon went back and forth for most of the third set. Edinboro called a time out with the Lady Knights lead 15-12. Gannon would go a 8-1 run to pull away for a 23-15 lead. They could close out the match with a 25-18 set three win.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Edinboro was led offensively by Cierah Jackson. The sophomore totaled a team-high 13 kills. She finishes the season with 323 kills, 28 service aces, 119 digs and 39 blocks.
  • Senior Hannah Cantrill added seven kills on the evening. She finishes her career with 407 kills, including 180 this season, 28 service aces and 363 digs.
  • Sophomores Molly Breier and Paige Morris along with freshman Sally Sterkel led the defensive side of the net for the Fighting Scots. Breier finishes the season with a team-leading 347 digs, including 18 on the evening. Morris finishes her season with a team-leading 81 total blocks with 14 block solos and 67 block assists. Sterkel finishes her first season with Edinboro second on the team with 236 kills on a .307 attack percentage.
  • Senior Megan Screptock, the 2015 PSAC Northwest Freshman of the Year, finishes her career with a team-leading nine double-doubles this season. In 2018, she had 217 kills, 49 assists, 23 aces, and second on the team with 298 digs. For her career, she finishes with 658 kills, 136 assists, 976 digs and 89 blocks.
  • Morgyn Sharp finishes her career with Edinboro with 91 kills, 10 assists, 12 aces, 38 digs and 33 blocks. The senior had a career high in blocks earlier this season with five against Mercy(NY).
