Fighting Scots Improve to 13-7, 10-6 in PSAC Action with 79-63 Win over California(Pa.)

EDINBORO, Pa. – The trio of Keshawn Liggins, Anthony Coleman, and Jaymon Mason scored in double figures and Edinboro committed just four turnovers as the Fighting Scots posted a 79-63 win on Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse. Edinboro swept the season series with the Vulcans while improving to 13-7 overall and 10-6 in the PSAC West. Cal is now 9-13 and 5-11, respectively. The win also came with the student body in session for the first time for a home game since November 19.

Edinboro moved a step closer to a PSAC Tournament berth with a big finish to the first half. Leading 30-25 with just under six minutes to play, the Fighting Scots closed the half with a 16-2 run to go ahead 46-27 at intermission. Liggins started the burst with a pair of free throws, then added a 3-pointer. Trey Staunch and Jaryn Simpson made a pair of free throws each to build the margin to 39-25 with 2:49 remaining.

Mike Beck's three capped a string of 12 straight points before Jahmere Howze's layup ended a drought over four minutes without a point. A Liggins jumper and Coleman's layup closed out the half.

Edinboro did not commit a turnover in the opening 20 minutes, and made 8-of-16 3-pointers. Coleman led the way as he scored 12 of his 15 points.

Cal made things more than a little interesting for head coach Pat Cleary in the second half. The Vulcans went on an 11-2 run in less than three minutes, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers in the process. That pulled Cal to with ten at 48-38.

Terry Davis. Jr.'s layup brought the Vulcans to within five points with 11:58 remaining at 53-48. Edinboro answered with a 10-0 run to open up the lead to 15 points at 63-48 with 8:48 left. Liggins converted on a conventional 3-point play, and Staunch powered his way for a layup to boost the lead to double figures. Mason drained a 3-pointer, and Staunch made two free throws to cap the run. Cal never pulled closer than 12 after that.
