Saleh's Hoop Provides Winning Points in Win over Illinois as Edinboro Wins Twice at Illinois Tournament

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team picked up a pair of victories on Friday in the first day of the University of Illinois Tournament. The Fighting Scots edged the host Illini, 45-43, in their first contest, then handed Auburn a 56-35 defeat. The victories boosted the Fighting Scots to 13-12.

Edinboro returns to the hardcourt on Saturday for two more contests. They play Nebraska-Onaha, followed by Missouri.

EDINBORO 45, ILLINOIS 43
After trailing 21-19 at the half, the game went back and forth in the second half. The lead changed hands ten times before Edinboro grabbed the lead at 33-32 on a basket by Chayse Wolf with just under ten minutes to play. Another Wolf basket and a free throw by Wolf made it 36-32 with 6:44 remaining. Illinois would come back with a pair of baskets to tie the game at 36-36, but Wolf's hoop with five minutes left gave Edinboro the lead at 38-36. Illinois would eventually knot the score at 43-43 on a 3-pointer with 21 seconds to play. Alex Saleh would provide the winning points with a basket with six seconds to play. The Illini would miss a three at the buzzer. Wolf ended the afternoon with 17 points, adding five rebounds and five assists. Kevin Atherley registered a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, adding six assists. Edinboro shot 43.8 percent from the floor (21-of-48), but made just 3-of-11 free throws. Illinois shot 39.2 percent (20-of-51) and made 2-of-5 free throws. Illinois held a 30-25 rebounding edge,   

EDINBORO 56, AUBURN 35
Edinboro used a big first half to pull away from the Tigers. The Fighting Scots led 33-19 at intermission. Auburn would never pull closer than 14 points in the second half. Wolf and Zadorian Lane led the Fighting Scots with 12 points apiece, as head coach Jim Glatch was able to substitute liberally in the second half. Kevin Atherley had 10 points and a seven rebounds, with Alex Saleh also scoring 10 points. CorRales Dupree pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Edinboro shot 42.4 percent from the floor (25-of-59), and was 5-of-7 free throws. Auburn shot 33.3 percent (15-of-45) and made 3-of-5 free throws. Edinboro dominated the glass, 36-20,
