Albanese Wins 100th Career Singles Match as Fighting Scots Fall to Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. -- Senior Vitor Albanese won his 100th career singles match with a 6-1, 6-2 over Nenad Terzic as the Fighting Scots fell to Mercyhurst, 6-3, at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie.

Despite the loss the Edinboro (9-8, 4-1 PSAC) secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming PSAC Tournament. The Lakers claim the top spot in the tournament. The winner of today's Bloomsburg/Kutztown match will earn the number three spot with the loser taking the fourth and final seed.

Albanese is now 100-17 for his career, heading into the post season. This season he claimed both the ITA Atlantic Region and PSAC Singles Championship. He became the first player in PSAC history to win three straight PSAC titles. He has also done well in doubles with a current season record of 23-8 and a career mark of 82-32.

It looked like Edinboro would claim the regular season title after this started off with a 2-1 lead after doubles. The team of Albanese and Daniel Fernandez, ranked No. 18 in the latest ITA national poll, won, 8-6, over Terzic and Cormac McCooey of the Lakers. Mauricio Santos and Kevin Mboko earned the other doubles with a 9-7 win at number three.

Mercyhurst would come back in singles and claim five of the six singles matches. Ruairidh Fraser's win at number two over Fernandez clinched the match for the Lakers.

Edinboro now awaits the winner of the Bloomsburg/Kutztown match in the PSAC semifinals on April 20. Bloomsburg will host the semifinals and finals.
