EDINBORO, Pa. -- As the snow fell, the Edinboro women's tennis team wasn't bothered as they swept the Golden Eagles of Clarion, 9-0, in the first on campus match of the season. After having their match postponed one day, the Fighting Scots (8-8, 2-1 PSAC) did not drop a set in their win over Clarion (4-8, 0-2 PSAC).
The win keeps Edinboro in the hunt for a spot in the PSAC Tournament.
The Fighting Scots got off to a quick start with a pair of 8-2 wins in doubles.
Laura Lopez and
Tatiana Batalla Trabal got the win at number one while
Jelena Vucenovic and
Payton Tomasko got theirs at number three.
Roxana Yeh and
Marija Tmusic won their match at number two doubles, 8-5.
Both Vucenovic and Tmusic did not drop a game in their wins at numbers four and five singles, respectively. Tomasko only gave up one game in her 6-0, 6-1 win at number six while Lopez wasn't far behind in her 6-1, 6-1 win at the top singles spot. Yeh won her match at number three, 6-2, 6-0.
The Golden Eagles had some hope to pull of an upset at number two singles. Batalla Trabal was pushed to a 7-5 win in her first set, before settling down for the 6-0 second set win.
Edinboro is back in action on tomorrow, Wednesday, April 11 as they travel up I-79 for a PSAC match against Mercyhurst. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.
