EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team wrapped up the 2018 season with a 17-3 loss to 22
nd-ranked Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium. The Fighting Scots ended the year with a 3-13 record, losing their final 12 matches, and went 0-12 in PSAC action. Lock haven improved to 12-5 overall and 8-4 in the PSAC.
The Fighting Scots celebrated Senior Day, with a young team recognizing two seniors,
Hannah Fitzgerald and
Erin Gordon, in pre-game ceremonies.
The final score doesn't indicate how well the Fighting Scots played, particularly in the first half. Edinboro trailed just 8-3 at the half, and held a 2-1 lead early in the contest.
Sophie DePalma opened the scoring with her 27
th goal with 34 seconds gone in the match.
Braxtin Reddinger knotted the score at 1-1 with a goal at 28:46, before DePalma scored again at 27:34 for a 2-1 advantage. It was the freshman's team-leading 28
th goal.
Neither team would score for almost eight minutes before Lock Haven tied the match on the first of three goals by Katie Costanza at 19:44. That started a string of four straight goals for the Bald Eagles before
Sidney Dobbins scored a free position goal at the 13:00 mark to make the score 5-3. It was Dobbins' fifth goal.
Unfortunately, Edinboro would not score the rest of the way as Lock Haven scored the final three goals of the first half, then outscored Edinboro 9-0 in the second half.
Lock Haven held a 37-9 advantage in shots. Freshman goalkeeper
Candace McDole concluded an outstanding season with 15 saves. That boosted her school-record total to 222 for the season. McDole played the first 51-plus minutes before giving way to fellow freshman
Kaitlyn Binotto.
Lock Haven had three players contribute three goals, as nine different players scored for the Bald Eagles. Dana Laulis led the way with 3 goals and 8 assists, with Alex O'Herrick adding 3 goals and an assist. Lock Haven used three different players in goal, with Lauren Marte playing the first half and picking up the win.
