Edinboro Picks Up First PSAC Win With 3-0 Sweep Of Kutztown

  • Location: Edinboro, Pa.
  • The Short Story: The Edinboro volleyball team picked up their first PSAC win on the season with a 3-0 win over visiting Kutztown on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots led the Golden Bears in every offensive and defensive category for the match. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro got things started winning the first two sets by identical 25-17 scores.
  • Freshman Sally Sterkel closed out the first set with a pair of service aces while fellow freshman Alicia Eldredge helped on the final two points of the second set with a service ace and the assist on sophomore Cierah Jackson's kill.
  • The Fighting Scots used a five-point run early in the third set to take a 11-4 lead and force a Golden Bears timeout.
  • Edinboro called a timeout when Kutztown pulled within three, 14-11. 
  • The Fighting Scots used another five point run to pull away 21-14 and didn't look back.
  • A kill by senior Megan Screptock sealed the third set, 25-16, and the match 3-0. 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Screptock had the match-high 10 kills on the afternoon. She also chipped in with six digs, two assists and a pair of service aces.
  • Nine different Fighting Scots had a dig in the match, led by Eldredge and sophomore Jessica Giannoccaro's nine each.
  • Edinboro led in every offensive and defensive category - kills (38-30), attack percentage (.278-.083), assists, 36-25), service aces (9-1), digs (49-34), and blocks (6-4).
NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS
  • Edinboro hits the road for their next three contests. Next weekend the Fighting Scots visit California(Pa.) on Friday, September 28 at 6:00 p.m. before heading to Seton Hill on Saturday, September 29 at 1:00 p.m. They will follow that up with a Tuesday night contest at Slippery Rock on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m.
