Fighting Scots Fall Short to Gannon, 2-1

EDINBORO, Pa. -- In a match played on the steaming artificial surface of Sox Harrison Stadium, Edinboro saw Gannon score with just over 15 minutes remaining for a 2-1 victory on Wednesday evening. The loss was the second straight for the Fighting Scots, who are now 1-2-0 and 0-2-0 in PSAC action in the young season. Gannon is ranked fourth in the latest United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region rankings.

HOW THEY SCORED

  • After limited action for the first half of the initial half, the two teams exchanged goals within 18 seconds. Edinboro grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 22:24 mark when Danielle Chatten beat Gannon goalkeeper Hannah Pufpaff, lofting a shot from 25 yards out on the left side over her head. The goal was the second of the season for Chatten, and was assisted by Cameron Bujnoski.
  • Gannon answered immediately on a breakaway, with Taylor Lewis scoring from 15 yards out in front of the goal past Anna Voelker. That tied the score at 1-1 with 22:42 gone in the contest.
  • The Lady Knights would score the lone goal in the second half at the 74:57 mark. Hannah Hays, a former teammate of Voelker's at Butler High School, scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Vanessa Coccurello. Coccurello passed the ball in front of the goal to the left side, where Hays fired it in from 15 yards out into the right corner of the net.
