LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Edinboro wrestling team wrapped up its road trip with a 25-11 loss to Rider in EWL action. Jacob Oliver (174 lbs.), Dylan Reynolds (197 lbs.), and Jon Spaulding (285 lbs.) all picked up wins for the Fighting Scots. Edinboro moved to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the EWL while the Broncs improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the EWL. Rider picked up a pair of wins earlier in the day over Cleveland State and Drexel.
Oliver jumped out to a quick lead in the first period, 12-4. He accumulated 2:09 of riding time heading into the second period where he chose down to start. It just took 26 seconds in to the second period for Oliver to secure seven more points and get the technical fall win 19-4 at the 3:26 mark.
The bonus point win for Oliver marked the second in a row during a dual for the redshirt freshman as well as his fourth in the six dual matches. This season, Oliver improved to 21-4 overall and 2-0 in the EWL. He has totaled four technical falls and seven major decisions this season.
Reynolds and former General McLane standout Ethan Laird went scoreless in their first period at 197 lbs. Reynolds chose down to start the second and got an escape one second into the second period. The two went without another point during the period as Reynolds held a 1-0 lead going into the third.
Laird got an escape early in the final period, but Reynolds secured a takedown with 40 seconds left to take a 3-1 lead. Another escape by the Bronc was not enough as Reynolds held on for the 3-2 win.
After one period at heavyweight, Spaulding led 1-0 over Ryan Cloud after a penalty point. The Bronc chose down to start the second period and used an escape after 29 second to tie the score up at 1-1 heading into the third. After Spaulding started down, the Fighting Scot got an escape to take the lead at 2-1. A takedown at the final buzzer pushed the score to 4-1 in favor of Spaulding.
The wins by Oliver, Reynolds and Spaulding marked the fourth dual in a row where the three all picked up wins for the Fighting Scots, including wins over Tennessee-Chattanooga, Kent State and last night against Bloomsburg. Both Reynolds and Oliver are 5-1 in duals this season while Spaulding is right behind them at 4-2.
