Burrelli, Jackson Post Solid Nights but Fighting Scots Fall to Millersville

  • The Short Story: For the second time this week, Edinboro won the first set only to lose the next three and fall 3-1 by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18.. Millersville came in having won 12 of its last 13 matches, and the Marauders made it 13-of-14 thanks to a powerful performance by 6'3" senior Jayci Suseland, a 2018 honorable mention All-American. She would finish with 19 kills and a .515 hitting percentage. Edinboro had a pair of players in double-digit kills, with freshman Bella Burrelli showing a team-leading 13 and Cierah Jackson adding 12. Jackson now has 963 career kills.     
HOW IT HAPPENED   
  • Edinboro scored the final three points to rally from a 23-22 deficit and take the first set 25-23. The final two points came courtesy of kills by Cierah Jackson. The tightly-contested set featured eight ties and three lead changes. Jackson and Burrelli each contributed five kills.
  • Jayci Suseland of Millersville took control in the second set with seven kills. The Marauders broke a 10-10 tie with three straight points, and they slowly pulled away.
  • Edinboro was unable to get over the hump in the final two sets. The third set saw Edinboro lead just once at 1-0, and the last of four ties came at 4-4. The Fighting Scots rallied twice in the set, pulling within one at 17-16, and within two at 21-19. Millersville would score four of the final five points. Erica Sharp had four kills for the Scots.
  • The Fighting Scots were never able to take the lead in the fourth set, as Millersville broke a 4-4 tie with three straight points. Suseland led Millersville with five kills, while Jackson had four. 
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING   
  • Freshman Bella Burrelli continued her strong play, once again leading the Fighting Scots with 13 kills.  
  • Cierah Jackson added 12 kills, the 16th time in 17 matches the junior outside hitter has reached double digits in kills. She is pulling steasily closer to joining the 1,000-kill club at Edinboro.  She boosted her career total to 963 kills. She ranks 12th in career kills. Jackson added 8 digs and had a pair of block assists.
  • Molly Breier and Hannah Brentar finished in double figures in digs with 14 and 11, respectively. Breier now has 825 career digs.   
  • Alicia Eldredge had a team-high 38 assists along with 2 service aces. She has 1,491 career assists. Paige Morris was big presence at the net with a block solo and 5 block assists. Freshman Erica Sharp totaled 7 kills and a .429 hitting percentage.
UP NEXT   
  • Edinboro plays the third of three matches in five days on Saturday, October 12, hosting West Chester. The match gets underway at 6 p.m. and is part of Homecoming weekend.
