Edinboro, Mercyhurst Battle to Scoreless Tie as Fighting Scots Now Undefeated in Last Nine Contests

ERIE, Pa. – Make it four overtimes games in the last five contests for the Edinboro women's soccer team. Number four came on Friday night at Mercyhurst's Saxon Stadium, as the Fighting Scots and Mercyhurst battled to a 0-0 tie in two overtimes. Edinboro is now 7-2-2 overall and 7-0-2 in the PSAC West. Mercyhurst is 6-3-2 and 5-3-1, respectively.

The good news for Edinboro is the Fighting Scots have not lost one of those overtime contests, with two wins and two ties. The tie also provides the Fighting Scots with a valuable point in the league standings, as Edinboro now has 23 points to lead the PSAC West. Slippery Rock is second with 21 points. The Fighting Scots previously defeated Mercyhurst, 2-1.

Edinboro continued one of the best streaks in school history as they are undefeated in the last nine contests. The only better stretch occurred in 2001, when Edinboro was 8-0-1 in a nine-game stretch. Edinboro came into the game ranked sixth in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region rankings, while Mercyhurst was ninth.

Edinboro finished with 21 shots compared to 16 for Mercyhurst, while both teams had two corner kicks.  Anna Voelker registered her second straight shutout in goal, finishing with 9 saves. The sophomore now has four saves on the season and seven in her career. Mercyhurst's Vilde Wold had 11 saves.

The Fighting Scots completes a stretch of three straight road games on Wednesday, October 16 at Indiana(Pa.).
