Fighting Scots Drop Home Opener To Walsh, 6-1

ERIE, Pa.—The Edinboro women's tennis team opened up the dual season on Saturday dropping a 6-1 decision to Walsh. Senior Laura Lopez picked up a win at the top singles spot for the Fighting Scots. The match was played at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie.

The Cavaliers swept through the doubles picking up a pair of 6-0 wins at number one and two doubles. Edinboro forfeited number three doubles. However, new rules this year has doubles worth only one point, with a best two of three format.

In singles, Walsh started off with a forfeit win at No. 6 before Lopez picked up her win at No. 1 after her opponent retired with the score at 1-1 in the second set.

The Fighting Scots saw action from their new two-sport athletes with Paige Morris and Hannah Brentar both playing volleyball for the Fighting Scots as well as tennis.

The Fighting Scots return to the courts on Saturday, February 16 when they host Davis & Elkins. The match at Westwood Racquet Club gets underway at 4:00 p.m.
