Fighting Scots Fall To Missouri, 61-48, To Open Illinois Tournament

URBANA-CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Jacob Spillers had 16 points to lead the Edinboro wheelchair basketball team as they fell to Missouri to kick off the University of Illinois Tournament on Friday morning. Spillers was one of three Fighting Scots that reached double figures with Kevin Atherley and Chayse Wolf scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The two teams when back and fourth for the first 11 minutes of the first half with Atherley connecting on a mid-range shot to tie the score at 17-17. The Tigers would go on a 17-4 run to close out the half to take a 34-21 lead headed into the break.

Missouri led the Fighting Scots in rebounding in the first half (14-12), but Edinboro was better on the offensive side of the glass, pulling down five rebounds to just two for the Tigers.

Edinboro opened up the second half going on a 11-0 run in the first five minutes to pull back within two at 34-32. Four different Fighting Scots scored during the run with Atherley scoring the first four with a pair of free-throws and a layup. Spillers and Seamus McNally each connected on a basket along with Wolf scoring from beyond the arc.

The Fighting Scots pulled within one point on two separate occasions, the latest with just 6:37 left in the game on a pair of free-throws by Wolf. The Tigers would use a run of their own to pull ahead late, leading by as many as 15. Both teams scored 27 points in the second half.

Edinboro led the Tigers for the game in rebounds (33-29), three-pointers made (3-1), and blocks (2-1).

Edinboro returns to the court on Saturday, February 9 when they take on the Crimson Tide of Alabama at 9:00 a.m.
