TORONTO, ONTARIO -- The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team opened up their weekend tournament with a 45-39 win over Toronto D2 before falling to Illinois, 53-36. They closed the day one of the Canadian Academy Tournament with a 50-27 win over Puerto Rico. Cor'Rales Dupree notched his first double-double of the season against Puerto Rico with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Fighting Scots will play a pair of games on Sunday before traveling to Illinois on March 14-16 for the 42nd Annual NIWBT National Championships.
EDINBORO 45, TORONTO D2
Chayse Wolf nearly had a double-double as he scored 13 points and nine rebounds to lead Edinboro in the first game of the Canadian Academy Tournament. Jacob Spillers was right behind him with 10 points and four rebounds. The Fighting Scots led 14-8 after one quarter and extended that lead to 26-18 at the half. It was during the third quarter that Edinboro had their biggest lead by 17 with 5:28 left in the period. Toronto tried to make a comeback outscoring the Fighting Scots by eight in the fourth quarter, but Edinboro held on for the 45-39 win. The Fighting Scots scored 14 points off of 12 Toronto turnovers.
ILLINOIS 53, EDINBORO 36
Kevin Atherley scored a game-high 14 points against Illinois as Edinboro fell to Illinois, 53-26. The Fighting Scots held a 12-10 lead after one quarter, but the Fighting Illini held Edinboro to just two points the rest of the half and held a 26-14 lead going into the half. Illinois held Edinboro to 22 points in the second half and extended their lead to come away with the 52-36 win. Spillers scored his second straight 10 point game. The Fighting Scots scored five points off of seven offensive rebounds while holding the Illini to just two points on four offensive rebounds.
EDINBORO 50, PUERTO RICO 27
Dupree led Edinboro with his first double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds while Spillers added a team-high 11 points while Wolf also added 10 points. Edinboro never trailed in the game and took the lead for good just 2:11 into the game with a layup by Alex Saleh. Puerto Rico kept it close in the first quarter trailing 8-4. However, late in the second period, the Fighting Scots went on a 10-0 run in the last 2:16 to take a 26-12 lead at the half. 15 of Edinboro's 20 points in the second quarter came off turnovers. Puerto Rico never got closer than 16 the rest of the game as Edinboro would finish with 24 points in the second half to earn the victory. Zack Craddock played all but eight minutes of the game while score two points, one rebound, assist and steal. The Fighting Scots didn't allow more than eight points in any quarter while never scoring less than eight.
