Chayse Wolf scored a pair of double-doubles over Illinois and Toronto D1 as the Edinboro wheelchair basketball concluded action at the two-day Canadian Academy Tournament.
Kevin Atherley recorded his own double-double in game one against Illinois.
The Fighting Scots (18-15) wrapped up their regular season after going 3-2 at the tournament. They will now travel on March 14-16 to Illinois for the 42nd NIWBT National Championship hosted by Illinois.
EDINBORO 59, ILLINOIS 47
Edinboro avenged a loss to the Fighting Illini from day one of the tournament with a 59-47 victory over the hosts of the National Championship. Illinois would lead for most of the first quarter but a three-pointer by Wolf put the Fighting Scots up for good with 43 seconds left in the period.
Jacob Spillers added a free-throw with one second left to put Edinboro up 18-15 after the first quarter. Both teams struggled early in the second quarter with a jumper by Atherley with 7:01 left in the half as the first point of the second frame. The Fighting Scots would lead by as many as nine in the quarter on two occasions including a shot by
Seamus McNally to give Edinboro the 30-21 lead at the half. Once again both teams could not find the basket until Illinois made a layup with 7:06 left in the quarter. Wolf put the Fighting Scots up by 15 with just over three minutes left in the period as Edinboro led 41-29 after three quarters. The Fighting Illini closed within six points with just under three minutes left in the game, but Edinboro made six free-throws in the last 40 seconds to push the lead back to 12. Wolf and Atherley both recorded double-doubles in the win. Wolf tallied his with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Atherley notched his with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Spillers led all scorers with 20 points while adding five rebounds. Zack Craddock played all 40 minutes for Edinboro.
TORONTO D1 47, EDINBORO 27
Toronto D1 outscored Edinboro in three of the four quarters to secure the 47-27 win in the final game of the Canadian Academy Tournament. Only 14 total points were scored in the relatively quite first quarter, with Toronto leading 10-4. They would extend that lead to 12 at the half at 20-8. The second half did not go much better for the Fighting Scots as they were held without a basket the final 4:50 of the game as Toronto push the lead from 13 back to 20 by the time the last horn sounded. Wolf scored 16 of the Fighting Scots 27 points while adding 10 rebounds to record his second double-double of the day. Every Fighting Scots who saw action recorded at least two rebounds.
