Tucson, Ariz. – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team won their first game at the National Wheelchair Basketball Association Intercollegiate National Championships 64-44 over Missouri.
The score was tied 6-6 early in the first quarter when the Scots went on a 10-1 run capped by a
James Pollard bucket with 2:01 left in the opening quarter. Missouri cut the lead to 18-11 with 1:05 to play, before Dakari Moore and Pollard made buckets to push the Edinboro lead to 22-11 after one.
The Scot lead grew to 33-19 on an
Isaiah Johnson bucket with 3:43 on the clock. The Tigers answered with a 9-3 spurt to cut the halftime advantage to 36-28 at the half.
The teams played an even third period with Missouri closing the gap to six, 44-38, on a Behren Treumper bucket with 1:49 left. The Scots dominated the fourth outscoring Missouri 18-6 to bring home the 64-44 victory.
Jeremy Evans scored a team-high 30 points to go with seven boards and eight helpers. Pollard was just shy of a triple-double with 18 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists.
The Scots advance to play top-seeded Alabama at 8 a.m. local time, 11 a.m. eastern.
