Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team split a pair of contests on the first day of the Boro Shootout inside McComb Fieldhouse.
The Scots dropped the opener to Illinois 76-49 and picked up a 55-42 victory over Missouri in the second contest.
In the win over the Tigers, the Scots trailed 6-2 early, but answered with a 17-2 run that covered the next seven minutes to build a 19-8 lead after an
Isaiah Johnson bucket with 48 seconds left in the opening quarter. Daniel Clements would pull the Tigers within 19-10 with a bucket before the buzzer.
The Scots grew their lead to 12, 27-15, on a Dakari Moore layup at the 5:38 mark of the second quarter. Missouri responded with a 6-2 spurt to cut the lead to 29-21 with 1:58 to go in the first half.
James Pollard made a layup to send Edinboro into the half up 31-21.
The Tigers had the better of play in the third quarter outscoring the Scots 13-6 to cut the Edinboro advantage to 37-34. The Scots scored the first six points of the fourth on buckets by Moore, Evans and Pollard to go up 43-34. Missouri scored the next four to pull back within 43-38, but seven straight for the Scots pushed the lead out to 50-38 and the Edinboro lead never fell below double digits the rest of the way.
Pollard paced the Scots with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds. Evans added 19 points and seven boards.
In the opener, the Illini jumped out to an 18-4 lead with 3:43 to play in the first quarter. The Scots closed the gap to 24-12 at the end of the opening frame. Illinois built a 46-16 lead before the break and held the Scots at arm's length the rest of the way.
Pollard led the offense with 18 points and eight rebounds. Moore finished the game with 10 points.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they host Missouri at 9 a.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
