Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro wheelchair basketball team split two games on the final day of the Boro Shootout Saturday inside McComb Fieldhouse.
The Scots won their opener against Missouri 58-43 and then dropped their second contest to Illinois 65-47.
In the opener, the Scots got out to an early 4-0 lead on a
Jordan McCown bucket at the 7:17 mark. The Tigers responded with a 6-2 spurt tying the game at 6-6 with 4:10 left in the first. Edinboro outscored the Tigers 6-4 to end the first quarter up 12-10.
Missouri grabbed an 18-16 advantage with 6:00 left in the second quarter on a Behren Treumper bucket. The Scots responded with an 8-1 run to end the quarter to take a 24-19 lead into the half.
In the third quarter, the Tigers trimmed the lead to 26-23, but the Scots answered with 14 straight points to open up a 40-23 lead after a
Jeremy Evans basket. Edinboro would take a 45-31 lead into the fourth and the Edinboro advantage wouldn't fall below 12 the rest of the way.
Evans led the offense with 24 points.
James Pollard nearly had a triple-double with 12 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.
Isaiah Johnson finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and six helpers.
Against the Illini, the Scots held a 14-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Johnson scored at the 4:16 mark of the second quarter to cut the lead to 24-18 Illinois and in the process score his 1,000
th career point. Illinois finished the quarter on an 11-0 run to take a 35-18 lead into the locker room. The Illini would keep the lead over 14 in the second half.
Evans paced the Scots with 16 points , six rebounds and five assists.
Elijah Yoder chipped in 14 points.
The Scots return to action on March 13 and 14 at the Southwest Minnesota State Tournament.
