Edinboro Extends Win Streak to Four Games with Sweep at UPJ

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team extended its winning streak to four games on Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep at Pitt-Johnstown in a non-conference twinbill. Solid pitching led the Fighting Scots to a 3-1 win in the opener. In the nightcap, the Boro bats came alive, pounding out 16 hits in an 11-0 win in five innings.

Edinboro improved to 7-9 while registering four straight wins for the first time since 2017. Pitt-Johnstown saw its record even at 8-8. The Fighting Scots return to action on Friday, March 29 at Seton Hill for a doubleheader to open up PSAC West play.

Game 1 – Edinboro 3, Pitt-Johnstown 1
The Fighting Scots survived a scare in the seventh inning to come away with the win in the opener, with Carley Nasca tossing the 4 2/3 innings to pick up the win, and Amanda Metz earning her third save with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Nasca allowed one run on two hits, striking out four with just one walk. Metz scattered four hits and struck out four. Leading 2-1 going into the seventh inning, the Fighting Scots pushed across a much-needed run as Roni Lipinski opened the inning with a double, and pinch runner Abby Sallot scored on Shannon Gilbert's single. UPJ would load the base with one out on three singles in the bottom of the frame, Metz induced a fly out to left, then struck out the final batter. Edinboro opened the scoring in the top of the second inning as Cheyenne Bothun singled, stole second, and scored on Lipinski's single up the middle. They added another run in the fourth as Olivia Jankowski singles, stole second, and scored on a two-out single by Victoria Allocco. The Mountain Cats closed the deficit to 2-1 with a run in the fifth, but Metz came in to get the last out with runners on second and third. Lipinski finished with two hits in three at bats.

Game 2 – Edinboro 11, Pitt-Johnstown 0
The Fighting Scots pounded out 16 hits and Carley Nasca picked up her second win of the day in game number two. Nasca tossed the first 3 2/3 innings, allowing a hit and three walks while striking out a pair, to improve to 6-4 on the season. Metz would get the final four outs, allowing three hits.  Edinboro opened the scoring in the top of the second as Victoria Allocco's single drove in Cheyenne Bothun, who opened the inning with a single. They pushed across three more runs in the third thanks to a two-run homer by Olivia Jankowski and a solo shot by Allocco. Edinboro then blew the game open with five runs in the top of the fourth on five hits. Jankowski plated the first on a single to right, and an error accounted for the second run. Bothun's double to left pushed across two more runs, and Allocco wrapped up the inning with an RBI single to right center. The Scots weren't done, scoring two more times in the top of the fifth on a two-run single by Abby Sallot. Allocco and Jankowski both went 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Bothun was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, and Danna Heh and Heather Barrett added 2-for-4 efforts.
