Fighting Scots Receive Great Pitching in Split at Seton Hill to Open PSAC West Action

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Edinboro opened up action in the PSAC West with a doubleheader split at Seton Hill on Friday afternoon. The Fighting Scots ran their winning streak to five games with a 4-2 win in the opener before suffering a 2-1 loss in eight innings in the nightcap. Edinboro is now 8-10 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC West, while Seton Hill is 15-9 and 1-1, respectively.

Game 1 – Edinboro 4, Seton Hill 2
The Fighting Scots extended their winning streak to five games as Carley Nasca and Amanda Metz combined to limit Seton Hill to six hits. The Fighting Scots had not won five games in a row since a six-game winning streak in 2015. Nasca went the first five innings to improve to 7-4, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out a pair. Metz came in and picked up her fourth save with two shutout innings, allowing a pair of hits and striking out three. The Fighting Scots grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Danna Heh started the game with a bunt single and stole second. She would be thrown out at home on Olivia Jankowski's single, with Jankowski moving up to second on the throw. She would score on Brittany Allen's two-out single to center. The lead grew to 2-0 in the top of the third as Heh tripled and scored on a ground out by Jankowski.  The top of the fourth began with a Cheyenne Bothun single. With one out, Bothun stole second and Roni Lipinski walked. Shannon Gilbert drove both in with a double to center. Seton Hill would cut the gap in half with a pair of runs in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Chelsea Rohan, but Metz came in to get the final six outs. Gilbert ended the game with two hits in three at bats with 2 RBIs.

Game 2 – Seton Hill 2, Edinboro 1  8 innings
Amanda Metz and Skyla Greco dueled for seven innings before the Griffins broke through with an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth.  Seton Hill opened the scoring with a run in the first inning, but the Fighting Scots tied the score in the top of the third inning, aided by a pair of errors. With two outs, Olivia Jankowski double to center and moved to third when Brittany Allen reached on an error. Jankowski would score on a throwing error. Allen would reach third in the error but a groundout ended the inning. The Fighting Scots threatened in the top of the sixth. Cheyenne Bothun reached on an error with one out and stole second with two outs. She moved to third on a Roni Lipinski single, but the inning ended on a Shannon Gilbert lineout. The Griffins opened the eighth with a leadoff single by Raelynn McGarry, signaling the exit of Metz. Carley Nasca relieved and was greeted by a bunt single by Nichole McClendon. Brooke Bower walked on a 3-2 pitch to load bases, and McGarry scored the winning unearned run when Jenna Osikowicz reached on an error. Metz (1-6) was the hard luck loser despite allowing just four hits and striking out one in seven-plus innings. Greco scattered seven Edinboro hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Jankowski went 3-for-4 at the plate.
