HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter was back-and-forth, with Gannon jumping out to a 5-0 lead before Edinboro came back to take the lead after one quarter at 18-16 on Michaela Barnes' jumper with ten seconds remaining. The period featured five lead changes and two ties.
  • The lead switched hands three times to start the second quarter, but the Lady Knights would go on a run of seven straight points to jump ahead 26-20 when Sydney Mitchell hit a 3-pointer. They would extend the lead to seven points at 33-26 with just over four minutes left. Barnes again hit a bucket at the end of the half for the Fighting Scots, this time driving to the basket for a layup with three seconds showing. That made it 35-31 in favor of Gannon at the half.
  • Edinboro would shoot 39.4 percent over the opening 20 minutes, and was 2-of-10 on 3-pointers. Gannon, meanwhile, shot 56.0 percent from the floor (14-of-25), including a 5-of-11 chart from beyond the arc.
  • Gannon opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run as Edinboro failed to score until the 4:06 mark when Jontay Walton made two free throws. In fact, the Fighting Scots would go 12-for-12 from the line in the period, but miss all 11 of their field goal attempts. The deficit would grow to as much as 16 points on three occasions, the last at the end of the quarter on Mitchell's layup with 37 seconds left. Edinboro would face a 59-43 deficit in the fourth quarter.
  • In addition to trailing by 16 points, the Fighting Scots would have to play the final period without top inside performer Ciara Rosten, who fouled out with just under three minutes left in the third period. Edinboro would stage a spirited rally behind Barnes and Michelle Jahn.
  • Jahn ended Edinboro's drought without a basket when she hit a 3-pointer with 8:20 to play, snapping a string of 13 straight misses going back to the start of the second half.
  • Trailing 62-46 with 8:07 remaining, the Edinboro run began with Allison Thompson's layup, followed by a Jahn three. Barnes then made back-to-back three's to pull the Scots to within 62-54 with 6:12 to play. After a Gannon miss, Jahn drained a three and the deficit was now just 62-57 with 5:38 still remaining thanks to an 11-0 run.
  • Gannon finally broke a stretch of over three minutes without a point on a pair of free throws by Tori Obenrader. After a pair of Edinboro misses, Chelsea Rourke scored the Lady Knight's first basket of the fourth quarter with 2:54 remaining to boost their lead to 66-57.
  • Jahn nailed her third three of the period – the senior guard would score all nine of her points in the fourth quarter – to make it 68-62 with two minutes left. Mitchell made one-of-two free throws, but Jontay Walton countered with a pair at the charity stripe to pull the Scots to within 69-64 with 53 ticks showing.
  • Edinboro would force a turnover, but now just 22 seconds remained. The Scots would come down and miss a layup, with Nicole LaCava grabbing the rebound and making two free throws with 11 seconds remaining. Barnes' 3-pointer with 3.6 seconds to play accounted for the final margin. LaCava missed a pair of free throws with just over a second remaining, and an Edinboro three attempt was off the mark.
