Edinboro Drops Close Contests to U-Mary, St. Cloud State

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Edinboro softball team suffered two tough losses on Tuesday on day four of the spring softball trip. The Fighting Scots fell to U-Mary, 2-1, and to St. Cloud State, 4-2. The Scots are now 2-4 overall, while the Mavericks are 7-8 and the Huskies are 9-1.

Both of Edinboro's contests were delayed due to inclement weather. They were played at the Legends Way Field #'s 5 and 2, as part of PFX's The Spring Games. Edinboro returns to action on Wednesday against Wilmington (Del.) and Georgian Court. Those contests are scheduled to take place at 9:15 and 11:30 a.m., respectively.

Game 1: U-Mary 2, Edinboro 1
Edinboro fell behind in the second inning, as U-Mary capitalized on an Edinboro error for the early lead.

Danna Heh would get Edinboro on the board in the bottom of the fifth. She scored on Courtney Allen's RBI. That tied the game at 1-1.

However, things would turn for the worse for the Scots in the top of the seventh. Rebekkah Kelly hit a home run to right field, giving the Marauders a 2-1 advantage.

Cheyenne Bothun and Lauren Gierlak each hit a double in the contest. Amanda Metz went the distance, pitching all 7.0 innings. She allowed five hits for two runs, while walking two batters with five strikeouts.

Game 2: St. Cloud State 4, Edinboro 2
Edinboro came out of the gates strong, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. After hitting a single to third base, Danna Heh scored on Brittany Allen's RBI-double to left center.

St. Cloud State would tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second. Courtney Allen, who pinch ran for Jessica Little, got Edinboro back on top in the fifth. She tallied the second run of the evening, as Olivia Jankowski's RBI-Double pushed her home.

The difference in the contest was a three-run inning by the Huskies, with two runs occurring with bases loaded.

The Fighting Scots had four hits in the contest, but had two apiece in the first and fifth innings, respectively.

Carley Nasca took the loss for Edinboro. She pitched 4.2 innings, allowing the four runs off three hits. SCSU's Bradi Yost improved to 2-1 with the win, while Sydney Lapoint recorded the save.
