Edinboro Drops Pair of Contests to No. 11 Grand Valley State, Findlay

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Edinboro softball team dropped a pair of contests on Friday to fall to 2-8 on their spring trip. The Fighting Scots opened the day with a 9-0 loss in five innings to 11th-ranked Grand Valley State. That was followed by a 3-2 setback to Findlay, their fourth loss by one run.  GVSU improved to 11-2, and Findlay is now 8-7.
The Fighting Scots will wrap up their southern swing on Saturday against two more teams from the Buckeye state, playing Walsh at 9 a.m., followed by Ashland at 11:15 a.m.

No. 11 GRAND VALLEY STATE 9, EDINBORO 0
The Fighting Scots were unable to come up with a hit as Hannah Beatus tossed a five inning no-hitter, striking out six. Edinboro had two baserunners, with Roni Lipinski striking out but reaching on a wild pitch in the third inning, and Danna Heh walking in the fourth. Edinboro battled the 11th-ranked Lakers on relatively even terms for three innings. Grand Valley State would score a pair of unearned runs in the top of the third inning, but would erupt for seven runs in the fourth. Lydia Goble had a two-run single in the inning, and Brooke Henning drove in two more with a double.

FINDLAY 3, EDINBORO 2
The Oilers would make a run in the sixth inning stand up as Edinboro suffered its sixth straight loss and fourth by one run this season. Findlay took a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first inning. Edinboro answered with single runs in the first and second innings. Danna Heh singled and eventually scored in the first inning. In the second, Roni Lipinski scored after reaching on a fielder's choice. Findlay would push across the winning run in the sixth inning after Carley Nasca relieved starter Amanda Metz. Rebecca Harvey led off the inning with a single, stole second, and eventually scored the third unearned run of the game on an error. Edinboro would threaten in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases, but Lipinski was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice with one out. The Fighting scots would open the seventh with a pair of walks, but Carly Brando came in and shut down the Scots with a fly out and a pair of strikeouts to pick up the save for the Oilers. Jankowski was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, with Victoria Allocco going 2-for-4. Metz started and went the first five innings, allowing four hits, a pair of walks, and striking out seven. Nasca came in and allowed just one hit over the last two innings.
