EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team lost a pair of contests at home to Seton Hill on Saturday afternoon in a PSAC West doubleheader. The sweep for the Griffins snapped Edinboro's four-game winning streak while widening their lead in the Western Division. Edinboro suffered a 4-2 loss in the opener, then fell 7-1 in the nightcap. The Fighting Scots are now 13-15 overall and 4-6 in the PSAC West, while Seton Hill is 22-12 and 7-3, respectively. The two teams split a doubleheader in late March.
With rain in the forecast for Sunday, Edinboro's non-conference doubleheader with Clarion has been postponed. The Fighting Scots will return to action on Tuesday, April 16, hosting Mercyhurst in a twinbill that was originally scheduled for this past Friday. Weather permitting, Edinboro is scheduled to play four doubleheaders in five days and six in eight days beginning next Tuesday.
GAME 1 – Seton Hill 4, Edinboro 2
Edinboro fell victim to an outstanding pitching performance by Devyn Terry. The Seton Hill senior faced the minimum number of batters through the first six innings, allowing just a single by
Danna Heh to open the fourth inning. Heh would be thrown out attempting to steal. Trailing 4-0, the Fighting Scots' bats came alive in the bottom of the seventh inning. Heh led off the inning with her second hit, a single up the middle. With one out,
Olivia Jankowski blasted her sixth home run of the season over the fence in left center. The six home runs are tied for seventh in a season.
Shannon Gilbert followed with a single to left, but the Fighting Scots were unable to complete the comeback. Seton Hill jumped on top with an unearned run in the top of the second inning, then added two more in the third and a single run in the fourth.
Carley Nasca (10-6) started and went the first 3 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs.
Amanda Metz was outstanding in relief, hurling the last 3 2/3 innings and allowing just three hits with four strikeouts. Terry improved to 11-6 as she allowed four hits and struck out six.
GAME 2 – Seton Hill 7, Edinboro 1
The Fighting Scots were done in by four errors, all in a four-run fifth inning, with all the runs unearned. Seton Hill took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Christiana Skrabak opened the scoring with a solo homer to left field with one out. The Griffins would push across a second run on an RBI single by Megan Miller with two outs. Edinboro answered with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Heather Barrett broke up Skyla Greco's no-hitter with a single to right center with one out.
Shannon Gilbert moved to Barrett to second with an infield single with two outs, and
Victoria Allocco's single to right center plated Barrett. Unfortunately, Edinboro had some uncharacteristic fielding miscues in the top of the fifth, with four errors leading to four unearned runs. The Griffins had just one hit in the inning yet built their lead to 6-1. Seton Hill added a single run in the top of the sixth for the final margin.
Olivia Jankowski extended her hitting streak to 19-games with a double.
Danna Heh saw her 17-game hitting streak come to an end, going 0-for-3.
Amanda Metz (3-9) threw the first four innings, allowing four hits and a pair of runs while striking out three.
Carley Nasca would toss the final three innings, allowing five runs, but just one earned.
