Brentar Wins Tiebreak To Give Fighting Scots First Win Of Season Over Cal U, 4-3

EDINBORO, PA. -- Hannah Brentar won a third-set tiebreak, 8-6, to clinch the Edinboro's women's tennis teams first win of the season over Cal U, 4-3. The Fighting Scots improved to 1-14 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC West while the Vulcans fall to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC West.

Cal U took a 1-0 lead after doubles, winning two of the three matches. Laura Lopez and Brentar won their doubles match at number two doubles, 6-0, over Charlie Gallagher and Elizabeth Wohar. Edinboro dropped a 6-1 match at number one doubles and forfeited at number three.

Tatiana Batalla Trabal got the Fighting Scots on the board quickly in singles with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Gallagher at number two singles. Jelena Vucenovic evened the match at 2-2 after winning her number three singles match over Wohar 6-1, 6-0. The Vulcans would retake the lead at 3-2 with a Emily Suckling winning 6-0, 6-1 over Paige Morris at number four singles. Lopez forced the deciding match after she tied the score up with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the top singles spot over Carolin Ganahl. 

In that deciding match, Brentar dropped the first set, 3-6, t o McKenzie Wilson. However, she bounced back to split sets with a 6-0 set two win. Not letting her nerves get to her, Brentar took the third set to a tiebreak. With tiebreaks first to seven, win by two, Brentar remained calm with an extra-point tiebreak and earning the win with a 8-6 win in the tiebreak. 

Edinboro will return to the court tomorrow, April 3 when they travel to Slippery Rock for a 4:00 p.m. The match at The Rock was previously scheduled for Thursday, April 4, but was moved up due to inclement weather in the forecast.
