Four Seniors Honored Before Match With Mercyhurst

EDINBORO, Pa. -- Four seniors were honored before the match as the Edinboro men's tennis team dropped a hotly contested match, 5-2, with Mercyhurst on Monday afternoon. Mercyhurst claimed the PSAC regular season title and top seed in the upcoming PSAC Tournament next weekend, May 3-4. The loss snaps Edinboro's six-match winning streak and puts the Fighting Scots at 14-5 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC heading into the postseason. The Lakers improve to 15-2 overall and 5-0 in the PSAC.

In doubles, Mauricio Santos and Nils Plutat made quick work of Felix Schmedding and Sebastian Pardo, 6-0. The Lakers picked up the 6-4 at the top doubles spot. At number two doubles, Mateus Santos and Tommy Hsu got things started off right leading 4-0. However, Ruairidh Fraser and Arseniy Sklyarov would only give up one game the rest of the match picking up the 7-5 for the Lakers and giving Mercyhurst the 1-0 heading into singles.

The Lakers started off singles with straight set wins at number five and one to jump ahead 3-0. Julius Schulte got Edinboro on the board with his own straight set win at number six, 7-6 (2), 7-5. The remaining three matches all split sets. Unai Gonzalez clinched the match for the Lakers with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Mauricio Santos.
