ERIE, Pa. - The Edinboro softball team dropped a pair of PSAC West contests on Saturday, as the Fighting Scots fell to Gannon, 5-3 in game one, and 7-3 in game two. The Fighting Scots are now 9-13 overall and 2-4 in the West Division, while the Lady Knights improved to 14-9 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Edinboro heads to Slippery Rock on Sunday, April 7 for a doubleheader beginning at 10:00 a.m. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Friday, April 5, but was postponed due to forecasted inclement weather.
Game 1 – Gannon 5, Edinboro 3
Edinboro took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, as
Danna Heh scored on
Olivia Jankowski's RBI. Heh singled down the left field line, stole second, and advanced to third on
Heather Barrett's groundout to the first baseman. Jankowski's sacrifice bunt pushed Heh home. The Lady Knights quickly answered in the bottom half of the frame. Sarah Ingerick hit a home run to left field and Lisa Szajn scored on Rachel Tanilli's RBI-single. The Fighting Scots knotted the contest at 2-2 in the third, as Jankowski's RBI-double pushed Heh home for her second run of the game. Jankowski's double moved her into sole possession of second place in career doubles at Edinboro with 28. Gannon regained the lead in the fourth, scoring twice in the inning and tallying one run in the sixth for a 5-2 advantage.
Courtney Allen hit her first career home run in the seventh, putting Edinboro within a pair of runs at 5-3. Entering as a pinch hitter for
Jessica Little, the senior smoked one to center field..
Carley Nasca pitched the first four innings and
Amanda Metz pitched the final two innings. Nasca is now 8-5 on the year.
Game 2 - Gannon 7, Edinboro 3
A pair of Edinboro errors in the first and a Taylor Wilp home run in the second led to an early 2-0 Gannon advantage. The Fighting Scots would knot the contest at 2-2 in the fifth on a two-run bomb from
Olivia Jankowski.
Lauren Gierlak opened the inning by walking to first. She then advanced to second on
Danna Heh's sacrifice bunt and reached third on
Courtney Allen's grounded out to the pitcher. Jankowski then hit her fourth home run of the season, this time a two-run home run to left field, forcing the 2-2 tie. Gannon regained the lead in the bottom half of the frame and went on to tally four runs in the sixth. Gierlak scored her second run of the contest in the seventh. She tripled to left center and scored on Heh's RBI. Edinboro had seven hits, with Jankowski leading the way going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. The senior outfielder has hit 11 doubles this season, giving her 29 for her career. Madi Beining, the 2018 PSAC West Pitcher of the Year, captured the win for Gannon. Now 6-5 on the season, she pitched all seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while walking two, hitting one, and striking out seven.
Amanda Metz pitched for 5 2/3 innings and is now 1-8 on the campaign.
