QUAKERSTOWN, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team fell victim to the top hitting team in the PSAC in the opening game of the PSAC Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Veterans Park. The Golden Bears put up seven runs in the first inning and went on to hand Edinboro a 10-0 defeat in five innings. The contest marked Edinboro's first PSAC Tournament appearance since 2014.

The Fighting Scots are the number three seed out of the Western Division and are now 21-18 overall. Kutztown was the number three seed in the PSAC East and improved to 34-18. The Golden Bears came in ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings.

Edinboro returns to the diamond at 6 p.m. in the double elimination tournament, facing Mansfield. The Mounties dropped an 11-1 decision in five innings to Gannon in their opening game. They are the number three seed out of the Central Division and are now 17-14-1.

After Edinboro went in order in the top of the first inning, Kutztown sent 11 batters to the plate to score seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, aided by a pair of errors. The Golden Bears bunched together five hits, and also had a walk and a hit by pitch. Sara Keeny began the inning began with a walk and stole second.  She would come around to score on an error. A hit by pitch and infield single loaded the bases, with Hannah Auvil following with a two-run single to make it 3-0. Kutztown added two more runs on a groundout and an error, and the deficit grew to 7-0 on a two-run double by Sara Keeny.

Amanda Metz relieved Carley Nasca in the second inning and was promptly greeted by a solo home run by Tamara Kennings. The senior would settle down to retire the Golden Bears the rest of the second inning and the third inning, but Cheyenne Jones would hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to extend Kutztown's lead to 10-0.

Edinboro's best chance to score came in the third inning. With one out, Brittany Allen ripped a triple to left center. The Fighting Scots were unable to get Allen across the plate following a pair of ground outs. Allen's triple would be the only hit allowed by Amber Brugger, who improved to 12-8.
