AROUND THE PSAC

MATCH STORYLINES
  • Edinboro and Gannon are combining to host the Edinboro/Gannon Tournament, with Edinboro playing its contests at McComb Fieldhouse and the rest of the tournament taking place at the Hammermill Center. The Fighting Scots play a pair of matches on Friday and one more on Saturday.
  • After going 3-1 in the season-opening Rebich Investments Invitational, Edinboro faced a strong field in the Javelina Volleyball Invitational in Kingsville, Texas. They would come away with one win in four matches, defeating Southwest Baptist in four games following losses to St. Edward's, Tecas A&M-Kingsville, and St. Mary's.
  • The Fighting Scots finished with a 14-14 record a year ago and were picked to finish third in the PSAC's Northwest Division. Gannon was voted the preseason favorite in the division in the PSAC Coaches' Preseason Poll. The Northwest Division features five teams this year with the addition of Clarion, who moved from the Southwest Division with Shepherd joining the PSAC.
  • Head coach Missy Soboleski's is in her 15th year as Edinboro's head coach and holds the career record for victories with 320.  All told, she has compiled a 454-356 record while serving as a head coach for 24 years. She previously served as head coach at Mercyhurst and Gannon before taking over at Edinboro in 2005. She has led Edinboro to eight NCAA Division II playoff berths. Soboleski entered the season ranked 22nd in Division II among active coaches in victories, and is third among PSAC coaches.
  • Junior Cierah Jackson was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Javelina Volleyball Invitational. The 5'8" outside hitter has led Edinboro in kills in seven of the eight matches, and has been in double figures in all eight. She has earned second team All-PSAC honors while leading the Fighting Scots in kills each of her first two seasons. She has boosted her career total to 844 career kills. Jackson was named the PSAC Northwest Division Athlete of the Week for her efforts in the Rebich Investments Invitational. 
  • Alicia Eldredge enjoyed an outstanding season as a freshman starting at setter. She finished with a team-leading 916 assists, which ranks 13th in a season Edinboro. She ranked tenth in the PSAC in assists per set (8.88) and service aces per set (0.38). She had 40-or-more assists in eight matches. Eldredge has 253 assists this season. Molly Breier has a team-high 84 digs.
  • Freshmen have been playing a major role in Edinboro's success in 2019. Bella Burrelli, a 6'0" outside hitter/opposite, ranks second in both kills (81) and digs (60). Erica Sharp, a 6'2", middle hitter/outside hitter, has added 48 kills and a team-high 22 blocks. Bethany Miller, a 5'6" outside hitter, is another freshman seeing regular action.
  • Here's a look at Edinboro's three opponents:
  • MALONE – was 16-16 in 2018 and is currently 3-6. The Pioneers compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and were picked to finish seventh in the GMAC.        
  • SAINT ROSE – the Golden Knights posted a 17-12 record a year ago and come in with a 6-2 record. They compete in the Northeast-10 and were picked to finish ninth in the league.  
  • WALSH – like Malone, the Cavaliers compete in the GMAC. A year ago they finished with a 19-14 record and were picked to finish fourth in the conference this year. Walsh has a 5-2 record.   
UP NEXT
  • After playing in three tournaments to open the season, Edinboro will plays nothing but matches against PSAC competition the rest of the way. That begins on Thursday, September 26 with a match against Lock Haven at McComb Fieldhouse at 6 p.m. The next day they host Bloomsburg at 4 p.m.
