MATCH STORYLINES
  • Edinboro opens up PSAC action after beginning the season with three consecutive tournaments. A young Fighting Scots squad opened the season going 3-1 in the Rebich Investments Invitational. Edinboro then faced a strong field in the Javelina Volleyball Invitational in Kingsville, Texas. They would come away with one win in four matches. Last week, Edinboro played in the Edinboro/Gannon Tournament, picking up wins over Saint Rose and Walsh after a loss to Malone. That left the Fighting Scots with a 6-5 record. They now play 18 straight matches against conference competition.  
  • The Fighting Scots finished with a 14-14 record a year ago and were picked to finish third in the PSAC's Northwest Division. Gannon was voted the preseason favorite in the division in the PSAC Coaches' Preseason Poll. The Northwest Division features five teams this year with the addition of Clarion, who moved from the Southwest Division with Shepherd joining the PSAC.
  • Head coach Missy Soboleski's is in her 15th year as Edinboro's head coach and holds the career record for victories with 322.  All told, she has compiled a 456-357 record while serving as a head coach for 24 years. She previously served as head coach at Mercyhurst and Gannon before taking over at Edinboro in 2005. She has led Edinboro to eight NCAA Division II playoff berths. Soboleski entered the season ranked 22nd in Division II among active coaches in victories, and is third among PSAC coaches.
  • Junior Cierah Jackson was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Javelina Volleyball Invitational. The 5'8" outside hitter has led Edinboro in kills in 10 of the 11 matches, and has been in double figures in all 11. She has earned second team All-PSAC honors while leading the Fighting Scots in kills each of her first two seasons. She leads Edinboro with 145 kills and has boosted her career total to 888 career kills. Jackson was named the PSAC Northwest Division Athlete of the Week for her efforts in the Rebich Investments Invitational. 
  • Alicia Eldredge enjoyed an outstanding season as a freshman starting at setter. She finished with a team-leading 916 assists, which ranks 13th in a season Edinboro. She ranked tenth in the PSAC in assists per set (8.88) and service aces per set (0.38). She had 40-or-more assists in eight matches. Eldredge has 328 assists this season. Molly Breier has a team-high 135 digs, bringing her career total to 622.
  • Freshmen have been playing a major role in Edinboro's success in 2019. Bella Burrelli, a 6'0" outside hitter/opposite, ranks second in both kills (113) and digs (95). Erica Sharp, a 6'2", middle hitter/outside hitter, has added 76 kills and a team-high 32 blocks. 
  • Lock Haven, under first-year coach Eric Buggs, has a 6-4 record. The Bald Eagles were picked to finish fourth in the Central Division. They finished with a 10-17 record a year ago. Edinboro defeated Lock Haven in four games a year ago.
  • Bloomsburg is in its second year of existence and also competes in the Central Division. The Huskies of head coach Dan Kreiger come in with a 5-7 record prior to playing at Mercyhurst on Thursday night. The Huskies finished at 6-22 in their first season of competition.  They were picked to finish third in the Central Division. Edinboro won a 3-0 decision a year ago in the first-ever meeting.

  • After playing five straight matches at home, the Fighting Scots head out of town for three straight contests. That begins with a pair in eastern Pa. next weekend, playing at East Stroudsburg on Thursday, October 3, and at Kutztown on Friday, October 4.
