Eldredge, Jackson Named to All-Tournament Team as Fighting Scots Sweep Saturday Matches

 
THE RUNDOWN – Rebich Investments Invitational vs. Glenville State 
  • Final Score: Edinboro 3, Glenville State 0 (25-15, 25-19, 15-23)

  • Location: Edinboro, Pa. – McComb Fieldhouse 
  • The Short Story: The Fighting Scots won their second straight match with an impressive three-set win over Glenville State to open day two of the Rebich Investments Invitational. Cierah Jackson led the Fighting Scots in kills for the third straight match with 14, while freshman Bella Burrelli continued to impress with 13 kills. Jackson hit .444 for the match. Edinboro trailed just twice in the first two sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Edinboro pulled away for a 25-15 win in the first set. Leading 10-8, Edinboro ran off six straight points, including three kills by Cierah Jackson and a kill and service ace by Bella Burrelli. Glenville State never pulled closer than six points the rest of the way. Edinboro hit .500 in set one.
  • The Fighting Scots posted a 25-19 victory in set number two. Glenville State would take its first lead of the match at 11-10, but Edinboro responded with the next five points. Freshman Erica Sharp accounted for three of the points on kills. The Pioneers closed to within a point at 16-15, but Edinboro spurted again with another five straight points. Three were on kills by Paige Morris.
  • Glenville State would go on top 15-11, the largest lead of the day for the Pioneers. Edinboro regained the lead for good at 17-16 on a service ace by Alicia Eldredge, but the Pioneers would not allow the Fighting Scots more than a three-point lead the rest of the way. They would tie the set at 22-22, but Edinboro closed with kills by Burrelli and Jackson.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING   
  • Junior Cierah Jackson led Edinboro in kills for the third straight match with 14, while freshman Bella Burrelli contributed 13 kills. Fellow freshman Erica Sharp had eight more kills. Jackson added a team-high 6 digs and a pair of service aces.
  • Setter Alicia Eldredge had a team-high 35 assists, adding 3 total blocks and a pair of service aces. Paige Morris had 6 kills in as many attempts for a 1.000 hitting percentage. Abigail Horner matched Jackson with 6 digs.
  • Edinboro hit .296 for the match, with a .500 figure in the first set.
 
 
 
THE RUNDOWN – Rebich Investments Invitational vs. West Virginia Wesleyan

  • Location: Edinboro, Pa. – McComb Fieldhouse 
  • The Short Story: The Fighting Scots finished with a 3-1 record to open the season in the Rebich Investments Invitational with a three-set win over West Virginia Wesleyan. Cierah Jackson led the Fighting Scots once again in kills with 14 and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Alicia Eldredge. The sophomore setter totaled 30 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Edinboro jumped out to a 12-4 lead and West Virginia Wesleyan never pulled closer than four points in the first set. The Bobcats would close to 15-11, but Edinboro followed with an 8-2 run that included a pair of kills from freshmen Bella Burrelli and Erica Sharp. Cierah Jackson was busy in the set with 4 kills in 11 attempts.
  • The Fighting Scots captured set number two, 25-18, thanks to 5 kills and a pair of service aces from Jackson. The Bobcats kept the match close in the early going before Edinboro pulled away with a 12-4 spurt that boosted the lead from 10-9 to 22-13.
  • Set number three went back and forth, with 14 ties and 6 lead changes. Edinboro finally grabbed a 17-16 lead on a kill by freshman Bethany Miller, and would slowly pull away. The Scots scored the last three points, including kills by freshman Bella Burrelli and Jackson.
  • Cierah Jackson paced the Fighting Scots with 14 kills, marking the fourth time she led the team in kills. Bella Burrelli added 10 kills and a team-high 13 digs. Molly Breier chipped in with 12 digs.  Alicia Eldredge finished with 30 assists.       
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

UP NEXT   
  • Edinboro will head to Texas for four matches in the Emerald Beach Hotel-Javelina Volleyball Invitational hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Fighting Scots will face St. Edward's and host Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday, September 13, then play St. Mary's and Southwest Baptist the next day.
